  • Where could I obtain the the MIDI file to Track001, also known as Nexuiz menu music and Starship ambient music; I believe it fails to capture the feel and kick of a fast-paced shooter such as Nexuiz, and therefore I plan to recompose it [and yes, I do have the qualifications]

  • Most of the music in the game is made by Gerd "eliysis" Raudenbusch (excuse the spelling) and iirc he/she uses Impulse Tracker. A midi file is thus not available, but an IT file might be. Its possible that the menu music is one of the few tracks not by Elysis, in that case i dont know :)

I guess someone is going to start the "source of binary content discussion again, but as I've earlier explained (over and over again), GPL cannot be directly applied to content, if it is binary data has to be considered its own source or the use of GPL is worthless, thus it might be very possible that the original creation files are lost, not available, or totally useless for anyone missing some spesific hardware/software

  • actually, IMHO binary files ARE its own source, simply because they are not the result of some automated process. Same goes for ASCII text files, of course. Nobody can request the "source" to one, even though one COULD consider a manuscript that - and of course, if the manuscript would be just sent as a copy, it would have a "source" again, so in the end you could request the REAL manuscript. So you see, it would get riddikulus when trying to actually do that... so one has to consider the binary file its own source, or one would get nowhere.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Nice to know someone agrees with me :) I still bet someone will start ranting about midi files has to be available for music cause the midi files are the musicis "source"..

  • I would not accept MIDIs as source anyway...

source is the FULL score of the music. That contains much more information than MIDI can encode... unfortunately, it can't be "compiled" to a music file in some straightforward way, so it doesn't qualify either... so again, there is no source, or in other words, the binary IS the only possible source.

    ;)

  • It seems like a single clause in the GNU GPL v2 has caused bickering... without any actual progress.

Track001 is not composed by elysis, thus I am dumbfounded at who to contact, and I do not need the full source as per say, but I request at least a reference of sorts; the problem comes from the combination of both previously stated facts, there is absolutely no trace of a reference, and no contact information for the true composer.

So what contact information does anyone, including Alientrap, Urmel, kojn/kojak, Kozak[6], & whoever, have? If I don't receive any merit of detail, I'll have to reverse engineer a source from the Hertz of the music... :|

    I'm glad you asked :P .

The Nexuiz menu music is called "Digital Pursuit", by Brian Callahan/Parapraxis, whose website is:

You can email him at slefd1m AT yahoo.com.

I already posted a song into the Zymotic forums.

  • Can't there be a tag in the ogg pointing to the creator/author, so problems like this may easily be solved on occurrence in the future?

  • To the original poster, what did you have in mind for the main theme, in terms of harmonies, chord progressions, orchestration, style, key, tempo, and mood?

tl;dr: Can you please describe the composition in words for me?

  • I've just added what I feel should be the new Nexuiz main theme, ...made by my Brother, James. It's called "Creation" and he's given full permission for us to use it for Nexuiz.

In my opinion, it's nothing short of fantastic.

    Folder: "sound/cdtracks/creation.ogg"

See my signature for the download.

  • First of all welcome back Tenshihan.
Second, this soundtrack is amazing  It completly fits with Nexuiz in my opinion. It should be used for the Frontpage vid?

  • That would be most appreciated! I've wanted to use this song in the game since I started playing Nexuiz, ...so, who else do we need to convince in order to make this a reality? ;)

  • Wow, creation is really nice. Seriously awesome track, it's perfect for the intro. It's intense and ambient at the same time. It's got this epic feel to it.

    W00t! Thank's -z-!

My brother, James, will be glad to hear of such approval, -z-! :)

On another note, I've just finished the very first version of my GPL library for everyone to use, and I'm about to upload it to your site (via my signature).

It's 118mb in size when zipped and approx 140mb unpacked, ...lots of various cool sounds in there for everyone to explore and hopefully they can use them in new maps and get ideas of what else they'd like to ask me for.

    Cheers!

I'm actually PinkRobot, oh hai! The forum classifies me as an Alien, which is very kind.

And by the way, cheers for taking an interest in making Nexball sounds. I myself quite like the "boing" sound we have now but it will help the mod to have real sounds for it :D
