  • ^Subject.

I can go so far as to say this game looks better than Doom 3 :D . There is just the issue of stuttering even though some of us have healthy FPS though so I'm itching to see a new version.

    Hoping. :D

  • Nothing's been publicly announced for what the plans are for the next version, so it's hard telling.

  • Get some screenshots of Nexuiz with 4xAA. Nexuiz also has better projectile graphics when you set its particles to 1.0.

Its rocket trails rule. Hands. Down.

Where this game loses is in its bump mapping. Doom 3 has better bump maps with corrugated surfaces that really show.

Some aspects not all. I just got awed that freeware can look so good.

    Peace!

  • This is better:

And I still have not enabled AA here yet. Again, Doom 3's bump mapping towers but if future versions of Nexuiz will have better bumpmapping, it WILL trounce Doom 3. (that and eliminate stutter)

  • afaik darkplaces/nexuiz has at least as good bumpmapping support as doom3 has, with the advantage of deluxemapping. like the shots i posted show.

  • I think when, er... that one guy who posted the really good models in Editing gets back to his school computer and finishes some of his ideas up, we could see some Doom 3 level stuff in Nex with the models.

  • Hmmm.... not to be a naysayer but some walls in your shots look flat. Not being argumentative, mind. Just my two cents.

BUT yes, some of the bots I encountered --- like the one in my screenshot --- do exhibit good bump mapping that sometimes are better than Doom's.

  • I'm sorry, but those photos of farewell just didn't do it justice! I've included some others as well. Nexuiz's maps are outstanding when seen how they're suppose to be seen! 8)

    r_shadow_bumpscale_bumpmap I have it set to 32. :)

  • They seem to be a bit distorted up close, but that setting (in autoexec.cfg) definitely gives Nexuiz a grittier feel. Doesn't seem to impact my framerate too much, either. :)

  • Yes, they look to be bump overkill. They look good but they remind me of my Photoshopping days when I made rusty surfaces for a 2D model design. Ill try more subtle settings later. Can't wait until work ends. :D

This doesn't affect fps. Yes, some look a little distorted, but I still love the look of this. Wait until you all try the exaggerated gloss.

r_shadow_glossintensity Beware! Don't set this too high or you'll feel like a kid in a candy store! XD I use a setting of 1.5. :)

It's not actually that realistic, it's over the top. Brickwork in real life does not have a 50mm deep groove between the bricks. You also notice far worse aliasing with that high a bump offset and if you were to enable AA, it would hence run slower.

  • When I type:

    r_shadow_bumpscale_bumpmap 32

    Nothing happens, then I type:

    r_shadow_bumpscale_bumpmap

    and it says

    r_shadow_bumpscale_bumpmap "32" ["4"]

EDIT: Just now looked at date, sorry for bumpage

  • After setting r_shadow_bumpscale_bumpmap 32, you have to do a vid_restart for it to take effect. Also, if you dont define a value like you did the second time, it just tells you what it is set to, and what the default is (4).

  • Nexuiz has a lot of special effects, but nobody uses them because it is too taxing on most people's computer. I think that 2.4 should focus on optimizing the code so that people won't be afraid of turning on all of the effects.

  • Sounds easy, but we have nobody who can do that (it actually IS quite fast, it's just that it contains effects that nobody needs and that gain nothing). Any volunteers?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
