Whatever font I use, it ends up like that when using the original character cell size 8x8 at 800x600:






It can't beat this:



So... what I need is a font with "overly large" lowercase characters, like the font Nexuiz uses (see how it makes the round part of the g smaller, for example, so the middle part can be larger). Also, the Nexuiz font has no accented characters, so it has more space to the top.

Any idea which font could help?

How're you loading that font?
Are you creating a conchars image? Or are you trying to load other fonts, using which library? FreeType?
There might be another way out but I'm not sure, especially as long as I don't know anything
