  • how about porting to PS2/3 Wii or PSP. i know its quite impossible for xbox because of the firmware of it (the only type that would play the game would be the one with the xtreme mod) the firmware of the xbox does not allow to play back ups of games, and if MS would give away the code to the home-brewers of home made games you would have a lot of pirate xbox games that play without the modded console. The point i'm making that even if you knew how to make an xbox game you would have a BIG problem with making the xbox recognise it as a game unless you were supplied with the knowledge of how to boot up a game on x360 and there is a big chance microsoft would think that youre trying to make a fix/patch to all xbox pirates so they boot up on normal consoles. I am also wondering about cross platform gameplay, probably all the consoles wont accept calls from a non-console (i mean a pc connecting to a Wii internet port) so i think the idea is dead already. But if a console could find a pc game host, you would only have to make a new internet script which would be a translation of a normal pc one into more universal kind (so variables have same names and they are coded in the same ways). Alternatively there could be a translator for the host so it understands the console and translates the commands/packets that are going to be sent to the console into something the console can "understand".

P.S. I am actually wondering about optimising the connection script. What about if the host and the clients send data only if the variables change (position, direction they are facing or weapon). I suppose you have done that already.

in THAT case there's nothing to PORT, you just compile it...

and playing FPS on consoles is the dumbest idea in history of gaming anyway

  • what you can make games with it, the program is free (because its old) and if you make your games available for free then i dont think you would be breaking any of the terms of the licence. It would be a bit different if you wanted to sell it

There you have two problems.. one is the engine and render which are C and opengl while what you want is C# and directx as far as i understand AND you have a licence problem. Nexuiz'sGPL DOES allow commercial stuff (selling) and it disallows ANY restrictions to that freedom..

  • Yeah but how do you wanna solve the licence problem? If someone breaks the GPL i'm sure alientrap with the help of FSF or similar would try to get those to apply to GPL by some means necessary..

Porting is hard if you can't use the code (licence) and even more so the game content like music, maps, models, textures.. As long as you can't solve this part there is no use in even thinking about the other part..
