    rwillmore@rwillmore-desktop:~/Desktop$ svnup-nexuiz.sh -a
    bash: svnup-nexuiz.sh: command not found

Any ideas, the file svnup-nexuiz.sh is sitting right here my desktop and my terminal is there as well..

    Try with

    Code: Select all
    ./svnup-nexuiz.sh -a

    note the ./ prefix

    .. or include "." on your $PATH ;)

don't forget to make it an executable with chmod +x svnup-nexuiz-sh

    good luck

That works, thanks. Any performance or other advantages from always using the svn version?

  • It's not really recommended unless you're interested in developing. You're checking out unfinished work, so expect bugs and incompatibility with stable servers. Client side, you'll likely start seeing improvements over time but again, some things may require cooperation with a server-side version, so expect bugs.

Thats generally not a good idea with regard to security. That two extra chars should be so easy to type that it outweights the risks of added that to path..

Yes, that was the wink for :) But I'm not sure if he got it ..

However, adding the current directory to your path makes you vulnerable to an attacker with read/write access to your computer. Whether this someone got physical access to your computer or coming from Internet/LAN, you are screwed up already ;)

    No. :)

    Code: Select all
    rokenn@yourhost:~/> ln -s $HOME/bin/myhaxx0rtool /tmp/vi

Just as one example how an unprivileged local user can do harm. Although this one requires that "." has a higher priority than "/usr/bin" in your path. But I could also put some common typos into /tmp.

    No. :)

Yeah .. right, probably you're running a chrooted sshd, just like everyone else

Anyway, my apologies for suggesting that as a joke and as a sort of hint about how the thing works, being fully aware of the risk (whether high or low) that it implies. I guess thats how things get messed sometimes :)
