  • Thanks for the info about the footsteps DivVerent, I guess I will check those possibilities later then.

However, the new armor sound took me all week to make. *...Jeez.* :(

"Bouncy"?? ...I just ran around with the Mortar - firing secondary WHILE picking up armor - just to check what you were saying, ...but well, they sound nothing alike to me.

I had changed the armor just recently because the last one was compared to a machinegun (apparently mappers keep lining-up the armor-shards). But I have to be direct and honest here guys; This is getting a bit maddening for me because armor really is very hard to 'create' in sound without it sounding like some other games' armor, and I really want Nexuiz's armor to still sound original, ...so, can you guys PLEASE try it out for a week and see if it grows on you? (Change is always strange - at first).

Yeah, about the Original Yoda-announcement, ...i'm sorry C.Brutail, but No. I've read all over the forums now that far too many people just CAN'T understand what's being said in the original. Also - it's too hard for foreigners to figure out the meaning when English isn't their first language and they have no reference to whoever 'Yoda' is. (Not everyone has seen the Star-Wars saga).

Since this game is played multi-nationally, I decided on a word that I know is common enough in foreign countries and they understand from exposure through the world-media, ...hence my simplistic choice of: "Amazing" (And yes, it's MY voice, guys.) ;)

I hope you understand now why I made this fairly important decision.

If you really want to hear the original, ...just open my .pk3 file (7-zip works great and is free to download). Then go into the folders: "sound \ announcer \ male" and in there you can delete the one that says; "yoda.ogg". Then the original (that you prefer)will play for you. Hopefully then everyone will be happy.

For those of you who DO appreciate my hard work, thank you, ...it really IS tough to make these original sounds as well as have time for everything else in my life.

    Your appreciation, is appreciated! :)

Bye everyone, ...I'm going to bed now, ....been up all night working on these sounds...

  • I understand your reasons, but you know, like I've said, it's a legacy, an in-community joke :)
So for an old-timer like me, Yoda will always stay in Nexuiz :D

  • But what about the alternative - rerecording yoda, making it easier to understand?

  • ...amazing...

I have no experience in sound design and I have the 3.5.3 version of the soundpack.

The electro plasmaball bounce is a bit faint and difficult to hear.

I think the armour shard (armor5.wav) pickup seems too much like a weapon firing (a rivet punched through a hole, perhaps). Too much attack. But I don't think it could be confused with a nexuiz weapon, though. The armor25.wav gives me a clear notion of a knight donning armour, sheats of metal sliding into place. Maybe a "smaller" version of that one?

The nex sound is great and I think it fits the weapon better than the old sound. I play some minstagib and would like a bit faster decay on the nexfire.ogg (keep the length). The sound blurs too much with other nexes firing continuously (maybe it would be anyway, not a biggie).

    Very impressive work!

And yes, Watchmen is the best graphic novel ever. Black Hole is quite nice too.

  • Speaking of the nex... I think this Nex sound is perfect for the current Nex model, and the previous one could be used for the (stronger) MinstaNex.

  • Tenshihan's SoundPack V3.5.5:

    Release date: Oct 9, 2008

    * New Hagar-Fire and Crylink-Fire sounds.

    * Brought UP the level of the Electro-Bounce.

    * New (small) 'Armor1' sounds.

    * New footsteps.

    * New NexFire. (Faster-sounding, yet quieter than the MinstaNex) ;)

    See my Signature for download.

PS: DivVerent, did you get a chance to download my "MinstaNex-Sound-Tests.zip" from my Sig, under "FOR_DEVELOPMENT_TEAM" ?

  • I'd take minstafire2 for the minstanex. Can I already add it to svn (the unfinished one) so I can make the code to use that effect?

Hell YEAH! You certainly have my full permission to use any and all of my sounds for the next release of Nexuiz!

Let everyone here be my witness that I hereby give the Admin / Developers / Distributers and Players all my full permission to use my sounds as they wish. That was always my intention from the start of my involvement in this project.

I make ALL of these sounds specifically for the Nexuiz Development-Team and the growing Nexuiz Family / Community here. :)

    ~Michael 'Tenshihan' Quinn

PS: As a professional courtesy, it would be really nice to have my name in the credits alongside any other sound-contributers, that way I can put Nexuiz on my professional resume.

That's great to hear bro, thank you man!

Next week I will get back to working on new armor sounds. You wouldn't believe how hard it is to come up with something that seems so simple as 'armor' sounds. So far - it's been the hardest sound to create from scratch, ...for me.

  • I can believe that, as there is no natural example for a pickup of armor in any way. Driving with a car over a piece of scrap metal just doesn't add to the strength of the car body, neither does jumping onto some piece of clothing enhance your present garment. Apart from that, both sounds wouldn't fit to Nexuiz even if they did work in real life.

But up to now your work has really pimped up the game significantly so I am very confident you will be able to produce the "just right" small armor sound.

I feel the small armor sound should be less sharp, so still a bit softer with a tendency to a "gulp" kind of sound. I don't know if others feel that way too but that's how I would think it would sound good even when picking up many small armors in a row.

Again thank you for the great work and contribution to this awesome game!
<Community>: Why was the name "Nexuiz" licensed to IllFonic in a way that allows IllFonic to use the name without any suffix or subtitle for a commercial console game?

  • Thanks... I just committed the change. The MInstaNex now uses sound/weapons/minstanexfire.ogg (so you can make your new packs support that). I like the new crylink :P

Speaking of credits... how would you like to appear, just with nick, or with full name? It looks like the next release will use the complete soundpack, and you seem to be almost done now (just some sounds missing).
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS

Awesome, i'm glad you like the new Crylink sound! And about credit, Thank you Div! :)

About what credit name to use: I saw the other team-members using their first name, then their nick, then their last name), ...that looks great to me, so may I please have mine listed as; 'Michael "Tenshihan" Quinn', then? (Perhaps linking my name to '-z-'s Nexuiz-Ninjaz profile page for me as well, like you did for his name.)

    Thanks! :)

I'm off now to get this small armor done right!

    Thank YOU halogene!

It's when I receive good vibes from people that I feel inspired to give these sounds my "all".

I will take your advice into consideration and try that out for the armor, ...however, some people were complaining about the original health sounding like it was being eaten like food, which is why I tried to change it to sound like if you are quickly drinking a health-remedy of some type. Either way - your positive input is greatly valued and I will try a version of that idea! ;)

Take care and have a great night!

:?: What do you mean by a "high frequency peep"?

Do you mean the sound of the metal scraping?

  • I love the new small armour sound. Quake2-ish again :D
The crylink is AWESOME! just a bit loud imho
Same goes for the mortar reload sound: very good, but too loud.

I've liked the previous version of the electro.

Also, I miss "Flag taken". :)

Thanks bro. Yeah, I was wondering about the reload volume on the Mortar myself, but wanted feedback - so that's good input.

I'm glad you like the new Crylink sound! :)
I will lower the volume on it a little bit for the next release, but not too much because it's suppossed to be very powerful - thus the volume being stronger.

As for using IRC and any other Live chat - I really can't due to my dyslexia (That's why I type here, so I can fix-up my notes before hitting 'send', but even typing takes me a long time.).
