It's always been disappointing for me how when a rocket or bullet hits the wall, the burn or hole only stays for one second then fades away. Same goes for blood and any other decal types, not sure if gibs are included here too. I know this increases performance when there are many players around a map making a mess, but isn't it just too little?
Anyway my question was; Is there any command from the console (or a settings file I could edit) to specify longer decal times? Not a server change of course since this should normally be client-side, so a client setting so one can set decals up to a manual number of seconds / milliseconds.
I also wondered if a setting to specify how long decals should stay in the Effects menu could be helpful in a future release. Maybe something between 1 and 30 seconds for those who have enough resources to have them around for that long. I also remember in Kingpin - Life of Crime there was a system where decals stayed infinitely but the oldest bullet hole started disappearing after a certain number of them with each new one I made, although that idea didn't appeal to me so much.

The only one is decal distance, which doesn't refer to how long decals last but to how far they render in your FOV (I think).

Works like a charm, thanks

Set it to 60 myself as that's as much as I need.

good to know this, because the default of 2 seconds is far too low to be useful.

Well in the end I had to decrease to 30 seconds because around more open maps, when there are too many players shooting around decals do decrease a bit of FPS. If you have a medium specs PC I think 15-20 seconds is a good limit, and if you have a higher specs PC 30-35 can do too.

when people are hagar spamming, only 5s work for me
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again
You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
