    Please test this build.

    Changes list since 2.4.2:

    http://svn.icculus.org/nexuiz/trunk/cha ... iew=markup

If you find a problem, report it on:
    https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_ ... tid=563407
As always, if it is a crash, try getting a stack trace using whatever methods fit your operating system (OllyDbg on Windows, gdb on Linux and Mac). If it is a Host_Error or another error message, get the log or at least a screenshot of the error message.

Problems found in this build and already solved:
    - On 640x480, the new team radar dialog is not wide enough. Fixed in svn.
    - Overtime shows the wrong message (something about the race being over). Also fixed.

    Known problems:
    - No maps for Race and Assault included. Need ideas which race maps to include, Assault maps are in the works.

    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

    Any Mac-specific testing required?
I'm on an Intel machine and a Radeon2600Pro btw.

  • Comment: Instagib is unique from Minstagib, lack of demand is normal - Nexuiz functions on negative re-enforcement, rather than compliments system.

Benefits from removing Instagib are nearly non-existent, while the loss of choice is more deliberating for a FOSS project.

  • I think warmup needs a message saying 'warmup' in big text, the bots are annoying as I noted on the nexuiz bug list, I'd like to see new flags in the next release and what's the deal with flag caps? Can we set the number as a limit but count points seperately?

Other than those few things, I think it's great. The radar is slick as hell, the added weapon slots and sounds are great and whaddup sexy scoreboard? I've got a couple servers running.

It got removed as an option, as it is equivalent to:

    g_start_weapon_laser 0
    g_start_weapon_shotgun 0
    g_start_weapon_nex 1
    g_use_ammunition 0
    g_powerups 0
    g_pickup_items 0

That is, exactly how you set up any other weapon arena mode. Rocket Arena could die the same death, except that some people actually LIKE it, so it's neat to have it on a single cvar instead of having to set multiple of them.

And there WAS a benefit: not having to code it again, as the new weapon system would have required that.

BTW, the reason why nobody likes Instagib is obvious: it has no laser. A better replacement for Instagib in Nexuiz would be:

    g_start_weapon_shotgun 0
    g_start_weapon_nex 1
    g_use_ammunition 0
    g_powerups 0
g_balance_laser_primary_damage 0.00001 // nonzero so it still applies force normally

(that is, keeping the laser enabled, but making it virtually damageless).

And this is again mostly equivalent to:

    g_minstagib 1
    g_use_ammunition 0
    g_powerups 0

That is, "Minstagib without items or ammo".

  • I just played it for about 15 minutes. Didn't run into any bugs. Looks pretty!

PS: I am glad you are imitating the UT games.

  • Did you perhaps have packet loss? Did the error message contain the magic word "sort_next"?

  • I use kubuntu 8.04 64bit.
    I tried the link(release 8526) and a later svn(release 8528) in the sdl flavour.

    Bugs:
Mouse handles bad in the glx version, the image updates slowly when turning or looking up and down. Same in menu. I also have double the value of cm/turn with the same sensitivity. This isn't the case when I do "+left" and adjust the yawspeed.

Controls stopped working after I died while playing the campaign on starship. Had no keyboard or mouse, had to reboot the computer.

This is an unrelated error message I got...
    "Instant action:
    couldn't exec maps/basement.cfg
    Loaded maps/slimepit.ent
campaign initialization failed: wrong map: basement != slimepit"

I created a game with no bots and when I later tried the campaign, there were no bots there either. It's an old one. Maybe not important.
    http://forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?t=2765

Are the above worth reporting as bugs?

    Hud and menu:

Maybe this is the wrong thread...
Menu should have more contrast IMHO.

Its the same with the weapons showing to the right in default hud. Almost no contrast between picked weapon and the rest.

    Opinions:

I don't like the red trace on the mortar (and the hagar in 8526). With higher cl_particles it looks worse, too tangible, like you could hang your laundry out to dry on it. OTOH it does make it easier to avoid mortarshells coming at you and new players will have more feedback and learn the mortar faster. The old subtle trace is better, I think. Maybe something more subdued.

I used the crylink the way I used it in 2.4.2 and it felt too weak. After I read up on the forum and realized I had to aim. The crylink is better now but I want a little more power.

Cycleweapon was nice to have. I don't get this new weaponspriority thing. Does it affect which weaps are prev and next on the scrollwheel? I'll learn...

Using grapple hook through teleports was fun and useful. If you knew there were enemies on the other side you could hook, tele and swiftly move out of harms way. The map "telefrag" is different but not broken altogether. Telehook was hardly ever abused, but I figure the portalaunch could be.

    Feature request: :)
Could we have unhookable jump pads, thats more annoying?

In release 8528 bots are pink, spawned weapons are pink too, clashes with menu theme and what not.
    (a k a macrobat)
And yes, Watchmen is the best graphic novel ever. Black Hole is quite nice too.

  • What's happening? No more binaries since 14th October .
Looking good. There certainly is a performance improvement.
The only thing I don't really like is the new menu theme and the rockets. The rockets seem to have too much black smoke, and smoke never really looks good/smooth unless you're using DX10 :P.

  • One small problem I have been having with my SVN and with this version as well, is secondary fire on the Rocket Launcher: This does not always explode the rocket like it should. I do always hear the "tchum" sound on right-click but every once in like 10 times [just an estimation] the rocket will not detonate.

edit: Thanks to divVerent, problem most likely fixed [need to test some more to be sure] by using cl_netimmediatebuttons 0. Kinda weird this started happening for me when i moved to svn but oh well :]

  • Yesterday I've played on Green's server, and I've noticed two new weapons, the HLAC and the TAG seeker. Are they deafult from now on? Becaause I've really mised the crylink and the hagar. :( Not that the new weapons aren't fun :)

  • No, they are replacements only on esteel's server. They actually are new weapon slots, and new entities, and not replacing the existing ones.

  • You need to press twice the same button to get a new weapon. Same as in half life, where in the same weapon slot there are several choices.

  • Probably not, as we have no way to make a mac build.

Unless we get shell access to a 24/7 up Mac (can even be an old one); see the other post on this.

  • Compile from source. On Windows, use the "Nexuiz SVN Build System", which ensures you always get a current build. On Arch Linux, use that package Xeno made. On other Linux distributions or OS X, build from source manually or using scripts posted by others on this forum.

The builds are now password protected, as people apparently started distributing them elsewhere as "release". So from now on, only trusted people can download the builds.

  • For linux, here's soulbringer's latest build script:

    first install the prereqs:
    Code: Select all
    sudo apt-get install build-essential xserver-xorg-dev x11proto-xf86dri-dev x11proto-xf86dga-dev x11proto-xf86vidmode-dev  libxxf86dga-dev libxcb-xf86dri0-dev libxpm-dev libxxf86vm-dev libsdl1.2-dev libsdl-image1.2-dev libsdl1.2debian-alsa subversion libclalsadrv-dev libasound2-dev libxext-dev zenity

Then download the script to a folder... say ~/nexuiz_svn and chmod it +x (executable)

    Code: Select all
    mkdir ~/nexuiz_svn
    cd ~/nexuiz_svn
    wget http://z.nexuizninjaz.com/bash_scripts/sb_install_010209.sh
    chmod +x sb_install_010209.sh

    type:

    ./sb_install_010209.sh -h

-h displays help... most of you will want:

    ./sb_install_010209.sh -t c

Note: this script isn't very verbose. It's not hanging, just be patient.

If you want to create a shortcut, you can easily always call the latest revision with the following script:

    Code: Select all
    #!/bin/bash
    # for use with soulbringer's nexuiz install script
    # used to find the latest nexuiz revision and run it

    # find the dir this file is in
    base_dir=$(dirname $(which $0) | sed 's/\/.$//' )
    # change to that directory
    cd $base_dir
    # change to the latest nexuiz revision directory
    cd $(ls | grep Nexuiz_SVN_ | tail -n1)
    # start nexuiz
    ./nexuiz-glx

save the code above as nexuiz_start.sh in the same folder your keep the sb_install script in then chmod +x nexuiz_start.sh

You can now call this file from a shortcut with:

    /path/to/your/nexuiz_svn_directory/nexuiz_start.sh
