  • [quote="keres"]who are all these people registering and posting in this topic with just 1 post? :? kinda weird.

Imho there are lot's of people, who are registered, but haven't said a word, or very few. There's nothing wrong with that.

  • ^^ And I'm one of them!

I'm a newbie programmer, only knowing some Python, so I can't offer to help there. However, if Nexuiz ever needs some more game music, I can help.

  • I happened to stumble upon your site a little while ago but was in the middle of a project and so was unable to contact you immediately. I am done with my other commitments and so if there is still a need for developers for Nexuiz I would like to offer my assistance.

Let me give you a little background about myself so you can see where I would best fit in. My name is Aniket Braganza and I have been a professional software engineer for about 8 years. I currently develop network security software and so most of my experience is C# and C++
along with web services and sql database backend stuff. I have not done too much C development and I haven't done any game development before but am eager and willing to learn if given the opportunity. I have done some work with LUA too. I did some compiler theory and design stuff a number of years ago too :D. I am an avid video gamer and had been tinkering with them (when they were simpler back in the good ol' days) when I was younger. Of course, life gets in the way.

If you could give me some more information I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks

  • Welcome to Alientrap, ren3g7ade. There's always need for people who are capable of programming. Just to avoid confusion: this is an open source project that lives from people devoting their spare time to it just because they like to do that (which makes the result so awesome, I guess) ;) That being said, the best way to get into nexuiz would be, as esteel said, hanging out on irc and to contact any of the developers there. Again welcome and have fun!

esteel wrote:As the new release is just out, the devs are concentrating on bug fixing. See http://nexuiz.com/bugs for a list.. there is also a feature tracker but the best place to start would be on irc.. #alientrap on irc.anynet.org and talk to the devs :)
<Community>: Why was the name "Nexuiz" licensed to IllFonic in a way that allows IllFonic to use the name without any suffix or subtitle for a commercial console game?

  • The best way to get started is to just dive in. The development tracker is located here and you can find yourself some tasks you think you'd be interested in coding. When you complete one, you can submit a patch for review.

Read the following to learn how to get started with programming for Nexuiz.

You can find more help on IRC (read the faq above for info one where to go to find help).

    Good luck and have fun!

  • Hello and welcome Mizu, nice to see you here :)

Wow, seems a lot has been going on in this topic. I'm really glad to see more developers willing to help, I admit that at some point I thought the game might die due to the lack of developers. Big changes and improvements have been done recently though, and I think that if people are willing to help and put what they can into this game it will be by far the best opensource shooter of its type out there :)

Yes, I agree :) It can be even better and better though. It's already at the quality of a commercial game which is a lot.

    [imo]

Not just quite yet, better physics and characters models/animations and character animation code would be needed, if you mean a modern commercial game.

But the graphics engine, gameplay balance and netcode are there.

  • Does the term "official developer" mean coders only or content artists too? If the later then I have this same goal as well.

  • both. which i can do as well as music, but keep in mind that if my music is ever used, which i plan for my nongpl game, that my band "Torn'n'Tattered" or the second band i play with, "Decode Paradise" will need to be cited. So "official dev" to me refers to "THE OFFICIAL DEV" that have say a [Dev] or some forum marker like a color or title and officially do the coding and content design.

  • Let's say Samual is already very close to that status, as he shows quite nicely how to work with the team, and is getting an awesome thing done.

Actually, I'd already give Samual commit access, but I cannot do this, so this has to go through LH. His motion blur is pracitcally in, as a feature that only makes much sense with motion blur got added by me yesterday :P
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • divVerent: Now that motion blur is done (Heh, still needs a 16bit deep buffer.. but..), i'm gonna start on making the 2D resolutions match the aspect ratio (Maybe this could get in before 2.5.2 is released)
Do it yourself, or stop complaining.

  • Hi

I have a little 15 years of knowledge in c (some with opengl, others with sdl, and even a few with framebuffer in linux), multi-threading (yeah, with c - User threads and kernel threads. Both work's with linux/windows. Not sure what you are using right now), sockets, etc.

Still need someone to help the development?

  • Well I have some free time that I could help with. I know C# (not fluently) and Python, I haven't delt with a lot of C but the transition (after some reading) should be ok.
