  • I think there must be more DM and CTF maps added in 2.5. I don't know if I'm the only one who likes to practice movement or tests offline, but I do.

I was thinking about those maps:

    CTF:
    Greatwall
    Facing
    MikeCTF
    Towers
    Lavaflag
    Dusty

    DM:
Lots of the "Daily Q3 maps" by Strahlemann

How do you guys think about this?

  • It's not that simple. Everything included in Nexuiz has to be entirely GPL, which none of those maps are. Still, I'd like to see at least one new map added to Nexuiz:

    Dance.

  • Chubby wrote:Greatwall

    Under-developed, too open, it's in a box...

    Chubby wrote:Facing

Remake from another game, not sure if this can even be included
    Chubby wrote:MikeCTF

I think there are some licensing issues here

    Chubby wrote:Towers

Is this a joke? This has to be a joke, please tell me this is a joke. This map has what 2 textures? Gray and lava. Ugly, broken and in a box.

    Chubby wrote:Lavaflag

Nice shapes but too open and basic, I believe it may be buggy as well.

    Chubby wrote:Dusty

_v2 is an improvement but again it's underdeveloped compared to the core maps.

    Chubby wrote:DM:

Converts... I'm assuming licensing issues here?

    torus wrote:Dance.

While I think this is a fun map, I don't think it's worthy of the core. Aside from the fact it's a giant Warsow logo, I don't think it really fits

The only map out that list that can bring a candle to any of the current core maps is MikeCTF. Take a close look at the amount of detail that goes into the core maps. They far exceed any of these.

If any new maps get added to the core, I'd say it should be Silver City Reloaded.

  • MikeCTF is from Q3:A, so that one can't be. Also, it seems to have issues with lagging the server (no idea why).

I think Dance IS worthy- it's an extremely well laid-out map. Funny about the warsow logo though.

  • As the current criteria stands, only all around high quality Strahlemann DM maps + Strahlemann DM -> CTF conversions are included in base Nexuiz.

  • Gasoline is NOT good enough in its present state. The stairs are non-functional, it's too small, parts of it are incongruous (the glass ramp), and the jumppads are buggy. If it were scaled up, fixed up, etc, it would be great.

Doesn't work for me. I need the maps as they are packed in the 35 map pack.

And -z-, I'm not kidding about the maps I posted.

  • On a Mac, you need to put those files in a hidden folder called users\username\.nexuiz\data

Then it will show up in the map list. You can also play the map by typing "map mapnamehere" into the console.

  • Guys what about the penthouse map? it is by far my favorite map, makes some really really interesting 2 vs 2 or kh matches, i even love it for dm. I think the author is 70mm13 but i have absolutely no clue about licencing : (

I just like the way this map looks, plays. (srry 4 salivating! i just like this map an order of magnitute more than any other non official map).

  • 'Temple of Eternal Night' was submitted to the first map creation contest, but lost to Strahlemann's 'Strength' for the first place prize of inclusion with base Nexuiz DM maps.

Consider the implications of the result in relation to the quality of the map.

Did you know in the United States blacks and whites used to drink from different water fountains? Obviously our views have changed since then. Consider the implications.

  • Toen apparently has some performance problems for the server IIRC. That's why it's not included, not because it "lost" the mapping contest.

  • Exactly, toen totally bogs down a server with 2 GHz. But this may need retesting after the latest changes.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • That's a shame because it demonstrates so many nice things about the game. There is only one thing I don't agree with and that's the caulk around the top of the tower... you can't fall off, what fun is that? I played it last night with a few players and no one complained of performance issues but one player did comment that it felt like he was "playing with v_pyscho on". Which g_defaultplayerskins 255 probably intensified. I thought he meant it in a good way though :). I don't think he ever played spmspmspmspmspmspmspmspm.

  • I have only two maps that I think can be included in Nexuiz 2.5, the one that -z- has mentioned, Hot Grounds, and Killall Organic CTF. Though that has some bugs, and it's currently broken in SVN (I dunno how's that happened), I'm planning to release a new, fixed version, in case there's a need for it. I'm currently struggling with the replacement of the teleporter stones, and I'd need to know how the particle fire works. Once these things are rlued out, I can clean up the map, and I can contribute it.
Btw these maps are fully GPL-ed.

Moar official CTF maps. But sadly I can't think of any good map atm.

 how could I have forgotten, I certainly agree with this.

I agree. CB's kill all organic is pretty close... but it has limited pathways and only 3 levels of altitude, 1 of which is just a pit, making it useless to gain speed. If he expanded it a little more, maybe added another pathway, it'd be great.

    morfar wrote:Deletions Wishlist.

morfar wrote:- silvercity (silvercity_reloaded is enough)

I don't think this'll be going away soon if we need to be reverse compatible but I could be wrong.

    morfar wrote:- dismal

    Please yes.

    morfar wrote:silmepit (reslimed is enough)

I'm impartial here. reslimed is definitely more fun + more flow though.

    morfar wrote:maybe downer.

    I don't have a problem with downer.

Alien wrote:Mikectf, subseatrack, reservoir and cbctf6 (rocky rampage)

If you read the thread, you'll see mikectf is already ineligible. For similar reasons, cbctf6 cannot be included. Subseatrack is from tux racer so I don't know what the boundaries on that are.

Ronan's reservoir would be a possibility.

  • Mostly texturing issues, and it has some weird hinting problems: that's why most people has a framerate issue. I'm also not quite contented with the torches, but I couldn't figure out yet how to create perticle torches (neat new feature of the engine).
Also, when I've tried to fix these issues, I've suddenly got another weird problems, in the ASE models: somehow, the paths in them have changed, so the compile couldn't find the shaders. When I decided to fix them, I couldn't texture one part of the model the way I wanted - I still can't figure out how radiant textures patches.
And a lot small, minor problems.
