  • About your songs:

    1) About first one, I liked it somehow better, cause I imagined this could work very good for long awaited intro for Nexuiz (gib splashing, fast movement, various explosions, skill-frags - generally showing that Nexuiz is very fast and very fun).
    2) Yet second would be good as a general menu background one (having slower, more ambient but still energetic feel).

What I have always thought about nexuiz music, that it always lacked aggression (nexuiz is gib splashing ever lasting carnage, don't forget  ) and industrial beat (that's why so many people like gasoline_powered because of scorp's music cause it gives map the feel).

Now about the problems: for songs to be acceptable for nexuiz, songs should be in ogg format (mp3 is patented technology). If your sounds would be accepted (in intro form or not) maybe some transition would be required from the first to second. Currently it's starts quietly.

The whole thing could be done smth like:
loading -> nexuiz intro (by kojak, cuizi, whoever is making ...) -> welcome to nexuiz -> menu sound. Intro video could be skipped by simple mouse press. Don't know what others think about it.

  • I like it. The word 'calm' entered my mind when listening to it and picturing Nexuiz. Nexuiz has this speed, gibs and violence and as as Alien says, it fits quite nicely. That's all I can say on this one for now, I'll have to listen some more and if I have something else to add I'll come back at you.

The other song from the other thread, I listened to it before sometime, I recognize it. And now that I take a look and scroll down I see that I did left a comment.
The exact same thing as my last comment entered my mind.
"I think this song is really cool and all but I have a doubt about the solo that begins at around 1 min, love the latter part at 1.14 though. Overall, love the Doom remake."

I took a closer look, the solo starts at 0.55 and the second part which I absolutely adore begins at 1.12-1.13, I got goose bumps hearing to it now, seriously.
That solo needs to just go, replace it with something else but by the love of god keep the 1.13 part :) Make it melt in if you can, this can be an awesome piece! Don't give up on this.

  • The mp3 thing is not a problem. I'll render to ogg. And about the other song .. I need to find the source audio project to do that changes and I'll fix that solo thing :)

Well, what I really want to say is 'that's the kind of music I can produce'. If any of this pieces is finally selected I'll be seriously thinking about re-recording and re-mastering. There are some flacks I don't like. In the new one, I tried to record the guitar strokes in a veru spontaneous way ... I don't know if it's really working or if it seems that a 3 year old boy is pushing the strings...

Thank you so much for the comments, I'll keep working on them.

  • I'm really hoping to see the number 1 as intro video song with 30 m/s speed scenes and gibs splashing all around.
No, no, such video won't scare - people will get attracted like bees to the honey. Just look at q3 intro.

  • Talking about the first one here. I love the background, the beat and music, and thoroughly enjoyed the song. I think the guitar could be reworked or something (sounds sporadic?), but other than that it's a nice piece.

BTW, I've listened the the one you posted on the zymotic forums many times and I like it. Keep up the nice music.

  • The track is nice and I would like to use it as intro music, but let's clear up the legal issues first.

Which is the format in which you are editing it?

Are you using samples form third party sources? Which sources? Are you allowed to use them for GPLed music?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

I'm editing in WAV format. I'm using three royalty free (afaik) 'Reason' samples (the kick, snare, and charles), synths and real guitars. I could look for other samples, GPLed, but what's the point?

I'm using privative software for the production, but, afaik, I can release the track with the license I want. If there's any problem, I could just adjust the procedure.

Btw, I really want to record the guitars again.

  • Your guitar is certainly legally safe.

Please read the license agreement you got with your synth, whether it restricts licensing of your recordings. If this synth is a "hardware" synth, it probably does not, if it is a software synthesizer for the PC, it probably does.

As for these samples, their license may really be a problem. Please check out their license agreement.

As for WAV format - you edit directly was WAV? Which software are you using? Or are you actually "live recording" with your guitar and the synth? In that case, you're playing really great :)

  • Alien wrote:Reason uses refills. http://www.propellerheads.se/download/r ... efillrules How I understand it: if you own reason, you can use even free refills whenever you want. (That's what I said to leilol talking about similar sounds).

    Agree.

The synths are from reason too, that acts as the midi sequencer (too).

The guitars are recorded in protools, played over the reason tracks. If this is a problem, I'll use ardour ... but I dont see the point of modifying my workflow :)

Anyway, who could register the infinite sounds that a synth can make? I hope nobody is thinkin' about registering/patenting the sine functions :)

  • If you own a reason, no problems. The problems could arise (FOR YOU) if you didn't own the reason and propellerheads decided to check if you had a license to produce those sounds. That's all.

  • Then, it's ok :)

I'll record the guitars again. Stay tunned on next week :) I got a lot of things to do this week :(

There already are "patents" on colors. This patenting madness has to stop.

  • This is very good, but I suggest that you reduce the gain on the guitar and record a subtle acoustic guitar part to give texture to the electric.

  • Cool, you need to lock the guitar quantisation. Roll them nice guitar sounds and arps and build it with that intro then break for a drop and slam down some more uptempo beats. Nice sounds but just needs to break into an energy fueled roller.

    just my 2cents

Could work very nicely on the intro, keep it up.

  • Ah yes, the electric may need to be quantised in the final recording. Not that I think you have bad timing, but it's a very exposed part.
