Possible TAG Seeker sound

Developer discussion of experimental fixes, changes, and improvements.

  • What would people think about adding a sound to the TAG Seeker that alerts the target when they've been tagged so they can enjoy all the fun of running away from homing rockets? I was thinking maybe a distinguishable tone or the announcer could say "Tag, you're it!" or "Run!" I find I'm often tagged without realizing it, and I think it would be loads more fun if I was alerted to my impending doom.

  • I think that would be pretty lame :\ The game is cartoony enough as it is.

  • I agree with a sound that tells you that you are tagged, but it shouldn't be silly like 'tag you're it!' (imo).

  • Exactly, what torus said. Maybe some frightening beep, but not some joke.

  • If the sound file contained only one beep, maybe the intervall between beeps could decrease when the rockets get closer?

I guess that this is the best thing to do.

I think that's over complicating things. Would need to be coded I suppose to take into account how far they are from the player. Not necessary IMO. If it's simple and fast to code then sure go ahead whoever wants to do that, but if not, don't stress about it.

  • Well... yeah. The easiest thing is to use a beep sound repeated at a specified interval, with the sound that gets louder when the rockets comes to you. And it'd be cool too I guess. But it could be cooler IMO if that interval decreases, keeping the same volume.

Maybe for now the simplier way can be tried without any effort.

  • I think a constant, urgent-sounding beep that would be played until the rockets detonate would be best, and probably easiest.

  • We still need good beep sound. Hit sound is not suitable.

I suggested a distinguishable tone, too. Kind of like how typehit.wav is different from hit.wav. I'm not sure about making the game more cartoony with "Tag, you're it," but I bet it would get really annoying considering how often you can hit people with the TAG.

The original incarnation of the tag actually did that. It played a alarm like thing once when you got hit. Ill see if I still have the sounds here some place and add it again until something better comes along.

  • Because nexuiz is competitive game and additional non informative sounds might prevent from hearing enemy jumping or picking up power up. That's why people ask how to disable pain, taunts and play without bgm.
