Cheers :). I hope people like my latest one (sixtyfour) as much as the others. I'm working on another as well. I'd appreciate if anyone listens to my third posted song (edited into the original post) and give me opinions / suggestions for it. I shall post the source of it when I'm sure no changes will be needed to make, else there'll just be numerous version of the source floating around.

  • Listened to it. It's nice though I'm not sure if this one fits the game's theme so well.

  • One thing that may help though, blkrbt:

In german copyright law, §2 (2) UrhG:

    http://bundesrecht.juris.de/urhg/__2.html

"A work according to this law is only a personal and intellectual creation."

Only exception to this in German law is photography (§72 UrhG).

So, recordings of ACTUAL instruments (not synthesized ones) do not have copyright! Thus, if you are using such samples (and your strings probably are), you should be safe to use them.

A copyright however is constituted on a "database", that is, a collection of such samples to a full GM instrument bank. However, you aren't distributing that, so that's not your problem. The single samples do NOT have a copyright, unless they were synthesized by the author.

This also means that Tenshihan's sounds may have no applicable copyright - that it was a lot of work to create them does not count in the law, it only counts if it was a personal and intellectual creation or not. Does not matter, I respect his work either way and will sure continue to credit him :P

To conclude: I think it suffices if you ask the authors of the samples that were NOT recordings from real instruments. But it's nice to give the others credit anyway.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Only used soundfonts of real instruments from other people, all the synthetic stuff is my own work.

  • I've only listened to brokenlight so far, but this is the type of music i really really enjoy, I just saw the video on the nexuiz homepage, and as soon as i heard the start i knew I would immediately like it.

    Terrific work.

Thanks :). Can I get your opinion on this by any chance? It's the most recent song I've made for Nexuiz, but I wanted to get people's opinions on it, if it's alright for the game, if there are any changes anyone can recommend, if it's in completely the wrong/right direction.

  • Awesome! Just totally awesome! For real these are some damn good tracks. I especially like brokenlight and stairs. Hell I'm listening to stairs right now.

  • Hm... desert3 is great, but I originally wanted desertfactory to have sixtyfour... well, maybe sixtyfour fits elsewhere too.

In the future, can you run vorbisgain on your tracks, so I don't need to change them any more before committing?

  • I found that sixtyfour is good for dieselpower.

If you want to update the songs after doing some edits, just post, or write me a PM.

oh sure! Really sorry about that, I wasn't aware I was meant to. Should it be ran with any specific options?

Also, if you feel Desert3 would be more fitting on another map, I have no objection to it going there, and sixtyfour going on Desert Factory, if that's more prefered. Common opinion seems to be that Desert3 would be more fitting on a different map, anyway.

  • Desert3 is very nice as well :D It reminded me of the old songs from the original Unreal which made me happy.

A small suggestion regarding Sixtyfour: Maybe you could cut a little from the silence at the end, the song waits for more then 6 seconds before it starts looping again which I think is a bit long.

Was going to rework the song a little. Will take your suggestion into consideration when I render it again :)

  • And another-- suggestions and opinions welcome. I ran vorbisgain and didn't leave as much of a silence tail on this one.

    It's called ninesix.

The OGG is here, and the project file is here

    EDIT:
Ran out of my google pages bandwidth, so hosting it elsewhere for now:
OGG here, and LMMS project file.

It is now possible to synchronize particle effects to background music of the game. I wonder if I should commit this change to desertfactory :P

    haha. that is genius.

did you take a listen to the new song? I haven't had any opinions on it.. besides.. alpha's negative look on it..

  • Not sure, too much orchestra hit :P

Sorry, I really hate orchestra hit sounds, none ever sound good... they all remind of bad MIDI patch sets. In sixtyfour it's still okay, but there aren't that many in it...

when I try to ignore the orchestra hit overuse, the track isn't that bad... but I don't see where it could be used for Nexuiz. Maybe someone else has an idea.

After watching the movie Fifth Element, sampled orchestral hits will never cease to be awesome.

I don't imagine this opinion is shared by anyone but me :P.
