  • Probably not unless we get new music with matching MIDI file or something similar - and also, I don't think many maps have stuff that can be used for that.

But a possible candidate could be Bleach.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Btw, I may have asked this before but, what kind of music is it in the first video (the piano one). Something you made? It so reminds me of Final Fantasy type of music, or at least old Square, new Square-Enix.

If this would to be implemented on maps and midi files provided it would be more critical to create a map that would fit the music and make it appealing and not so distracting for the players.

I made it, but the melody is a variation of the German national anthem. All I really did was setting it from C major to A minor, and changing one or two notes, and adding accompaniment in the background (that is entirely by me).

I tried to get it similar to the style of Wolf3D's music, to fit the map best.

  • It would be nice to sync lightnings to the thunders on ruiner :) But of course the lightning should appear BEFORE the sound

Oh man! This is a great effect.
I hope div0 will try to do this, that one in desert_factory is more an exercise of style, but the lighninghs effect together with the thunder sound is just spectacular!

  • BTW, elysis responded, maybe he can give us some midis for this tracks in Nexuiz. I'm just not sure if those tracks are great to sync effects to them. But one can't be sure without trying :-)

Hmm, the track subcities used in final_rage might be a good one though. Maybe a bit fast ok not too many instruments and kinda 'simple' enough to sync to.

  • For this, I need help of others: I need some modeled lightning that can be put on the map at a fixed location, and alpha faded in and out on demand. I can then make it appear controlled by a BGS file. Ideally, I'd like two or three lightning models for this...

  • In my opinion it probably wouldn't be the coolest idea to sync smoke and stuff like that on Desert Factory, but the ability to have stuff synced to the audio and being able trigger stuff in it (like with that virtual keyboard) opens up a new level of creativity. I'm interested to see what people do with this. I imagine some pretty cool stuff can be done using those techniques.

  • omfg i totally missed this.
I already had a lot of ideas with syncing music to level effects, so this is just great!
This will definitely influence my way of mapping (i'm already building a map that is just perfect for this). I'd like to know how it works?
I just got that you need a midi file, but what entities are controllable?
    lifts? func_bobbing? particle effects?
And can texture parameters be controlled by it (like the switching between different _glow textures comes to my mind or the speed of scrolling textures etc.) that would be awesome, though i doubt that this already works...

    div, i love you ;)
Very inspiring and something i've always waited for. This will totally rock.
/me now goes nuts cause me needs to finish rl stuff first.... meh

  • Well, func_pointparticles and misc_clientmodel can have a bgmscript field, which matches an identifier in the .bgs file.

The .bgs file can be created from a MIDI using a perl script in misc/tools/.
