  • i want to experiment with creating sounds for xonotic (previously nexuiz)

where do the sound files live? is there a .pk3 they are packed in?

any info as to file format, type, or a good thread would be amazing if anyone could suggest one.

    thanks!

  • I think the pk3 is just a zip file renamed. You can use your favorite zip decompressor to peek at these files. Maybe uncompress all somewhere.
I suppose you can uncompress everything, and just delete the original pk3 file, so the engine load the ucompressed files. That way you may edit any .wav or .ogg file there. I think DP can load ogg files, but I could be wrong... probably the names of the files are hardcoded on the gameplay module, so you cant use hurt.ogg wen the game expect hurt.wav

  • I think I didn't understand your question. If you downloaded SVN version, folders are unpacked and you can find all sounds in /Nexuiz/data/sounds/ folder (divided in categories), for Normal version, instead, you'll find sounds in Nexuiz/data in a single .pk3 file named with a number sting (e.g data20090501.pk3), open it with your zip explorer application, and browse the folders until you find data/sounds folder. Decompress subfolder you interest (ambient, weapons, etc.)in a folder of your choice, and that's it.
As Tei said, there are .ogg and .wav files there.
