  • I'm surprised this hasn't come up a lot, but Nexuiz really should be xfire compatipal. That would make finding your friends servers sooo much easier and things like that. Keep that inmind!!!!!!
    Thanks.
I would wish you good luck, but in that time, I could have already killed you twice.

  • Xfire is incompatible with the GPL so no, it can't be done.

  • Well a first step would be simple support by XFire to be able to search and find Nexuiz servers but all the requests for this in their forum are unanswered as well as mails by me and i suppose others.. So i guess Xfire just does not want to support the game and to be honest this does not raise the chances that anyone will work to make Nexuiz supports XFire.

Then again i guess Ed is right it might be impossible to legaly incorporate the code to make Nexuiz xfire compatible.. But I did not yet take a look at the license and code thats available from them which should help with this.

Yes i know about that and maybe its just a misunderstanding as i never used xfire (how when using linux :) ).

As i understand it xfire is a server browser right? Meaning you click on a game (quake3 or nexuiz) and it will search for available servers and display the list for you to join right? You 'hack' does not do that as i never saw any master server names in your settings, right?
if i understand your 'hack' right all you got is that it will start nexuiz and when you then use the ingame browser to connect to some server it will notify xfire about that fact but with your 'hack' it will notify about that other game you used..

So 'real' support means for me that it knows Nexuiz is a game of its own, can notify about it.. And well in case its also a server browser it should be able to find and connect to nexuiz servers.

On the other hand if it really just starts game and does that notification i hardly understand why people use it :) Just to show off you play for 1337 hours? wow :P

  • I heard that the xfire team will launch a MAC OSX and later this year a LINUX client.

  • Yes, Xfire is somewhat of a server browser but it also tracks your gameplay as well. There are certain workarounds that make it so it says you play Nexuiz and the Quake III Arena Icon is replaced by a Nexuiz icon such as using a custom signature like so: www.xfiresigs.com you can edit your own signature and mess with the xml file to make it say your Quake III arena icon as well as the text which is shown shows Nexuiz.

Mac and Linux support has been awaited by many, but it is not likely. If they implement it to macintosh and linux (Linux? I doubt it.) I can still add some Nexuiz support to it.

  • well, in game chat is supposed to work in it, but xfire does not like to do that. In any of my games. So I cannot confirm it, but I've seen screenshots where there is in game chat so I believe this.
