  • There are only 3 good maps for the ctf Ladder, Bloodprison is too small for 3on3 ctf.

    So here are my suggestions.

    - Darkzonectf
    - hydronexb3
    - (maybe)medivalV2(should betested)
    - mojoctf_v2b1
    - reservoir-nex_b3
    - spyglass-nex
    - skycastle
    - hal_palindrome_nex
    - mIKEctf2_nex

What do you think about that maps? what are your suggestions?

Bloodprison is ok, Greatwall is too large imo.

We already tested hydronex. It is too hard to capture the flag.

My suggestions additionally to yours are:

    -Castle
    -Lavaflag
    -Towers

  • Not Hydronex (already tested)
Not MikeCTF (too big, obviously, it's a very nice FFA map or 5on5+ map though)

I'll have a look at the suggested maps next week (I am not online at the weekend). And please forget about simple maps that don#t have nice gameplay such as Towers ... really wondering how long I gonna keep that map on my FFA CTF server^^

  • spyglass looks good for 3on3
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • I did have a look at the proposed maps:

    - Darkzonectf: we should have a look at it and do some testing
    - hydronexb3: we already found out in the past that the flag on this map is too hard to capture because it's hard to get through or in the flagroom
    - medivalV2: no, sorry, one can just do a straight run from flag 1 to flag 2 in a few seconds, plus the flag is too hard to defend against fash lasergun rushers ^^
    - mojoctf_v2b1: lol, that is a FUN map, a flag captures in less then 3 seconds (on my FIRST attempt I did it in 3.09 seconds)
    - reservoir-nex_b3: I know this map quit well already from FFA. It's worth a try I'd say
    - spyglass-nex: No, sorry. One can get from flag to flag too fast!
    - skycastle: The same here. One can get from flag to flag too fast/easily, and it is hard to guard the flag
    - hal_palindrome_nex: interesting map, might even be good with its size, but it lacks good FPS, at least here. It is not playable. (goes down to 50-70 FPS often, and NOOO; this is still not playable, not just because something is > 30 FPS it doesn't mean it would be playable, alright ?)
    - mIKEctf2_nex: this is a great map, but it is really too big for 3on3 !
    - castle: well, one can get easily from flag to flag, too. But it isn'T that straight forward and I see better possibilites to block enemies there. However, it also looks a bit small for 3on3. Needs to be tested.
    - lavaflag: no idea, I cannot judge how it will play, it needs to be tested
    - towers: gnaaah wurg
    - hourglass: could be worth a try, but I'd not allow to add both hourglass and lavaflag to the pool as they are so similar

So, the result of this review is that the maps DarkzoneCTF, reservoirnex, castle and lavaflag should be tested

We have tested lavaflag which is quite similar to hourglass. We have tried castle too. Both maps were not accpeted.
Spyglass seems to be too small for 3on3.

  • these are FFA maps made for the masses. They are quantity > quality maps. None of them is actually suitable for the ladder (IMHO) - sorry :D

  • I have to aggree with Green, capturecity and towers are spamy, unprotectable fragfest maps but not good ctf maps. they are however very often played in public matches.. In my eyes Mikectf2, runningmanctf and cbctf4 are blueprints for good ctf maps:

    - There is ROOM, so you can move around easily
    - But there are enough obstacles to make attacking and defending interesting
    - Those maps offer several but well defined routes
    - There are dedicated flag rooms/bases that have enough (good) weapons, health and armor
    - There are also armor/health near attack routes that need to be taken care of as to not get too strong attackers
    - There is a quad damage you have to fight for
    - There are important items/weapons outside the base

I think those are the points that make good maps for ladder matches were you have organized teams. Publich matches are something different as they hardly are organized though i still have hope that my CTF guide ( http://forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?t=849 ) will help in the long run..

But i must confess i'm not sure about Zion and Darkbases as i have not played them enough to know them by name :)

  • zion is too easy to defend ..
    and mike & cbctf4 r cool but too big for3on3 i think ^^

    i suggest
    - accident
    - swamp
    (- gasolinepowered)
    (- evilspacectf)

    ()= maybe ^^

and reservoir is really a good map imo.. :)

  • Again, I do not have any objections if you guys test the maps for playability (like reservoire-nex, accident or swamp (I don't know that one yet, tho) and send demos of this or even invite me to join the game (if I have time) so that I and other ladder admins can judge it.

  • evilspacectf
    gforce3
    Hal_palindrome
    moonstone

All would be good 3v3 maps Imo. Moonstone would require really good teamwork to pull off a 3v3 though.

Imo spyglass might be good for a 2v2 scrim or something. Imo, 3v3 is really overkill. The map is just too small, and most of the areas underneath the flag area other than cry and quad damage are essentially irrelevant as timing is a key factor when playing a map like spyglass.

Also, people forget to mention this one, but battlevalentine would be perfect for 3v3 (imo).

  • horrible horrible maps being suggested..

i dont believe mikectf is 'too' big, all the others that have been listed are annoying syis (see you in sight) space floater maps...actually why am i not surprised!??

Nexuiz unfortunately needs a few good quality CTF maps more like mikectf before the ladder-pool is re-done.

Same is in TDM but there is atleast 2-3 good maps there at the moment.

  • my suggestions:

    -MikeCTF
    -Moonstone
-The latest version of BrokenWorld (sorry, Idk the correct name atm)

Dusty is a great ctf map, but it's perhaps too small and it has different bases, like Mirio already said.
