Preliminary release of the Nexuiz color palette chooser tool

  • Hey there.

For the usage in the Nexuiz ladders I created a small tool written in Java that allows you to change the colors blue, red, orange and green of the nexuiz color palette to any different color you like the most.

    Here's an illustration:
    Image

This tool will give you guys at least some power to manipulate the skincolors (on servers that use sv_defaultplayer_fbskins_xxx).

Please tell me about any problems you have (there actually shouldn't be any). Please note that this program isn't designed to do shit with it (so please don't crazy things like opening 100 gb files, or what ever things you can think of :D )

  • Good to hear that it works.

Of course it is allowed to set the same color for all skins. Just make sure you don't kill your team mates in TDM/CTF games, as you will have trouble to seperate them from your enemies :P

Btw, what I need to know is whether it works fine with the Java Runtime Environment 5 (I only have version 6 here)

  • The colorchooser is a java component which has its own language definitions. I never created that dialog myself. So I assume java decided to localize it to German as my system is German

  • I became a bit careful with your patches, GreEn. :P

Now tell me before I maybe try it, does this tool change the colors of the players I see, or do the changes affect the way the others see me :?:

  • They only affect the colors you see.

  • Here are the sources!

I'm sorry that the indentation is a real mess, I created this with Netbeans which apparently doesn't really care about clean source code.

Definetely my last NetBeans project anyway, since I started this only because of Netbeans Matisse (GUI Builder) which is pure crap, and recreated the project then as a pure java project, writing the GUI myself.

Have you tried jigloo? I found it quite handy.

Nice application by the way! I ran it fine in ubuntu.

Perhaps you should mention people need the JRE and can run it with the command:
    Code: Select all

  • Is there a way to change dm/lms games so that you can see everyone with FBskin? Is there some cvar that u can turn on to turn it on from client side?

The tool can't do that, sorry. It only supports these 4 important colors as shown in the screenshot in the first post. And about the cvar clientside: there is a way to tell the game engine to use a different colorpalette file than the default one (requires r_restart to work). This means that you could create several diffrent colorpalettes (either with the tool or with the hex editor, if you know what you're doing) and while you play you can tell the engine to use a particular colormap-palette file.

    It's r_colormap_palette

Nexuiz has neon skins from the start (especially in team games) so I don't see how this would not be allowed. I personally don't tweak my game like this, but I don't care if anyone else does. The only tweaks I think anyone worries about are hooks (tells you player locations), aimbots, wallhacks, and other cheats of that sort that are plaguing all three of the boring Counter-Strike (Urban Terror and Tactical Ops KILLS them) games.
I have left this website with the rest of the GPL Nexuiz community. You can find us at Xonotic.org

  • [EDIT] Oops, it's still available on ladder rules page, nevermind. [/EDIT]

I never had the chance to try this tool, unfortunately link is dead. Any chance you can put it back for download?

I was thinking, fb orange and fb pink would be more visible for team games than red/blue, wanted to try it out :(
