  • wait...there's a progs.dat in the MAP pk3 file?

  • ok, I got it working and I put up a server called TURRETS! which only has gforce3 in the maplist. It seems to have a good response so far. Everyone keeps asking about variations, like "can it shoot nex shots? Can I operate it? Can you make it track faster?"

    This is pretty neat stuff :-)

    Ronan was kind enougth to run a ctf+turrets testserver for a while, setting it up he and i added turret in .ent files for a few maps. if you are interested perhaps ronan sill gace those ent files somwhere.

    As for the "can it do this and that", each turret tupe has its own .cfg fle that controls its operation. precicely what can be done depends on teh turrets but they are generaly ratehr configurable.

  • yeah, I can understand the config files for each turret, but I can't figure out which TYPE of turret is being used on the gforce3 map. Is there a description of each of them somewhere?

    hmmm, I tried ronan's ent files and they didn't work. The turrets show up as triangles. What would be different between using those and using the gforce3 map?

  • Did you use the 'real' install of turrets or the stuff included in the map pk3?
    My guess is that you used the supplied pk3 stuff and that its incompleate (eg only includes the models used for the turrets in teh map)

  • yes, that is correct. I just pulled the progs.dat out of the pk3 for gforce3.

    I'll do the proper install tomorrow. Can I do it with the very latest nexuiz hotfix?

  • I compiled a new progs based on the current SVN code, it should work with the hotfix version. get it here: http://www.mediafire.com/?2md9m2crmbc First setup teh turrets data as descripbed in its thread, then unzip this in nexuiz/data and it should be fine.

  • Is there a version of this map available WITHOUT the turret progs.dat? Server admins will hate that pk3 if it replaces normal nexuiz files and throws you back into Nexuiz 2.3 time (code wise..) if you want to ship such a file either do so separately OR give it an other name so server admins can CHOOSE to use it by putting 'sv_progs NAME.dat' into their server config!

    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

    You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

    I'm running 2.4.2 and your progs.dat screws up the announcer voices.

    Also your name in gforce4.mapinfo has some odd characters, they are not rendered by the menu create/map selection screen or in game.

  • Cortez, if the progs.dat is needed, then you should rename the dat file to turrets_progs.dat and then, as esteel said....

    give it an other name so server admins can CHOOSE to use it by putting 'sv_progs NAME.dat' into their server config!


    Currently, I have to place your map in a separate Nexuiz folder so it doesn't conflict with the tourney mod or teaching mod. If you renamed the progs.dat in your map, then I could use the sv_progs setting to select that dat file only for that server instance.

  • No, that specific command is NOT possible.

    And if your map changes to another progs.dat when run, it certainly won't be played on any servers. This HEAVILY interferes with server administration (e.g. I run a patched progs.dat with some extra features I made that I use for managing my server, plus backports of some svn changes - your progs.dat would break that).

    I report a bad experience with this map:
    I had for long time this problem: When I fired up a server, the configuration was of 2.4 (rl stronger, crylink didnt bounce), while I didnt say to my Nexuiz 2.4.2 to behave in that way...

    Yesterday I've discovered that the problem was caused by gforces map (gforce3 and gforce4 that I moved from Nexuiz/dlcache to Nexuiz/data so they were included in the server map list) coz a friend knew well this problem and he fixed it removing these maps... I had no clues to solve this thing and lucky I've talked with the right person.


    Oh, I was forgetting... I love gforce maps, and gforce3 and gforce4 are even much more beautiful.

    no i didnt renamed them i removed them, because since the turrets are in the normal nexuiz version you dont need any additional stuff. thats the main thing and i also cleaned the brush work at some points
