  • I fixed all mistakes from Spacecastles and more :D

  • Hey Sven,

    Glad to see another mapper offering up some maps for us to play with :-D

    One note on the naming convention. Many of the server admins prefer names without miXeDcAsE filenames. Just makes it a little easier to work with the files on the serverside.

    Also, what a lot of mappers are doing recently is adopting the version/revision naming convention. So you would name your pk3 file (and the bsp inside of it) like :

    spacecastles_v1r2.pk3

    So if you had anything that needed to be fixed, then you release a new revision instead of a new version. You use "versions" for major changes to the map, like structural or layout changes.

    Can't wait to try out the map later tonight. :-D

  • I just tested this out with a buddy on my laptop and we had a great time. It's a really fun map, plays well. I wasn't a big fan of the jump pads but overall, good ideas and shapes. Like the teleporter and the placement of the hagar. I'm interested in seeing where this goes.

    Maybe a jump pad behind the base?

  • I like the general layout, but I noticed some immediate problems.

    1. Too dark. I have my gamma settings increased, but not everyone does. It looks okay on my end, but some players were saying that they couldn't see very well.

    2. Limited spawn points. As far as I can tell, you only have one spawn point (or area with a clump of spawn points) right in the middle of each base. That makes it incredibly easy to take over a base and just spawn camp. Especially because....

    3. There are too many resources in base. It appears to me that this is a common mistake among beginner mappers. Gaining resources should be somewhat of a challenge on the map, or else the gameplay suffers. This map has a ton of mega armors and mega health in base, and multiple nexes and TONS of machineguns. Then you get to the middle channel of the map and there is a quad AND a shield AND mega health AND mega armor. There's just too much stuff available. The resources should be spread out a bit and there should be smaller items (ammo instead of weapons and small health instead of mega health).

    I do like that you put the powerup in the middle area so there is something to fight over. I generally don't like having two powerups on one map, but that's just me.

    I think this map could be refined and turn into something good though :-D

  • What? Did I go back in time? v1_r3 is not nearly as good as spacecastles2. Where's the teleporter? That thing was sweet.

    The wall in the middle is too easy to jump. Perhaps make it wider and add a moving platform.

    Box maps are so last year, throw a kink in there. Streich the length from the castle to the wall too. I can laser jump from the castle to the wall, I don't think I should be able to.

    and yup the wall shouldn't be that near to the castle .. create a bigger field and put the jumppads in again :)

  • This map has been improved quite a bit. It's still a little dark in some areas (especially in the tunnel in the middle where you bump into things that you can't see) but it's much more playable now. The weapons are spread out well.
