  • Is he the original author of miniman, or trying to take credit?

  • He is not. I did the original port of miniman to Nexuiz and asked its original author, but never got a reply back. Probably he no longer uses the mail address. But I do not take credit for it (and clearly noted so when I made the port of the map). Of course I kep his README in.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • You should not only include the readme, but actually read it :
This level may be electronically distributed only at
NO CHARGE to the recipient in its current state, MUST
include this .txt file, and may NOT be modified IN
    ANY WAY.

Porting the map to Nexuiz was acceptable, modifying (and massacring) it isn't.

  • Legally, porting was not acceptable, but that is why I kept it as much like the original as possible (the only change I did at all was a recompile with different lighting, as the skybox was not included and no skybox of Nexuiz had the right sun direction). And this is why I tried to contact the original author first. Had he said he does not want that port, I would not have published it. Only after waiting for some weeks without response (not even "mail delivery failed"), I released it.

When modifying it, you should again have attempted to contact the original author.

And the last thing you should do to a map where the author does not want it changed is adding advertisements to it.

  • Well, personally I don't care, and I bet the author does not care either. Just try to contact him peacefully now. If he tells you to remove the map, do it (and then I'll ask him about the original port again). If he is fine, perfect, but then post it here too so the server admins know.

  • Well divVerent said that the map was ported from Quake 3. You should go look up some of the quake related sites like planet quake/polycount etc. although I think polycount was more for models if I remember correctly...

Often the mappers email contact is included on the page for the map or the permissions are.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

  • A contact email is in the included .txt file (won't rephrase it here as I don't want that poor guy to get extra spam).

His nickname is THS the website address was current in 2001... and here:
    http://lvlworld.com/a.php/THS
    are his maps.

Hauptbad 2000 may be fun too, but I won't port it to Nexuiz as long as the situation of minimanq3 is still unclear.
