minimalistic ons map made in ~20min :)

I have one small request tho, if somewhere in the future this will be most played map on ons servers, remove it, and dont look that "ppl like it" just remove and forget it :P

some said that ons-reborn is too complicated to learn ons mapping form it, so now take that, most simple ons map that can be created :P

  • Nah, easy to learn, but the idea of the gametype sucks. No one likes it. The owner of the ons server must change it in a DM server or put it offline forever. I guess the gametype won't ever be popular.

Ok, but it's the way I see it. I haven't seen anyone yet who likes it. And it's a huge pain in the ass for the one who pays the ons server. Never seen someone playing on that server. So he pays for an unused server.

One of the few times I agree with TVR. Your negative attitude sounds like it stems from ignorance. The stuff about someone paying for an unused server is just nonsense, do you know the person personally or are you just making more assumptions? Morphed has put a lot of time into this gametype and your words are quite disrespectful.

I don't think it's popular because people don't really understand how to play it. Morphed has created an Onslaught tutorial to help mappers and players alike learn the gamemode a little more but it's still a bit underdeveloped. Also, the problem with information on websites is they are a "pull method", meaning people have to seek to understand. In the case of onslaught and the AT forums, this is a challenging find.

So perhaps you should reconsider your words and the energy your spreading and move forward with positive attitude you originally had on the subject. The gamemode needs love, not negativity.

I also think you should apologize to morphed or at least delete your posts.

  • Few people play because we have too SMALL community. And because community is small, it plays only those game modes, which are most popular (dm and ctf) ones. If we had 10x bigger community, all servers would be full and onslaught would be played, cause you know it's boring to play alone. More mods make nexuiz better, not worse. Thanks morphed.

  • My apologizes for the replies. I sometimes forget how much time people have putted in their ideas.

Yes I know, I was really positive about ONS. All the ideas I had for the ONS ideas weren't good enough in many eyes. I'll let you guys bring up ideas now. I'm not smart enough for good ideas it seems.

    I
realised this too. I haven't ever done something as developping. I should support developper with their ideas. No matter how I think about their ideas, I should support them.

Nonsense, the greatest ideas are labors of love. Sure you may not have all the answers right away, heck you may never have the all but sticking with the ideas is what brings them to life. Never say you're not smart enough for good ideas. I think you were on the right track trying to get current maps to support this game type. It's this sort of interest that helps ideas grow. Stick with it.

Say what? I know I like Ons. When I get around to making a new map, it will almost certainly be for Ons (and any other game type I can cram into it).

Ons doesn't get played much because there aren't many servers hosting it. Just like DOM.

Imo that tutorial needs to be a sticky. Or something. Makes it easier to find the next time I start a map. :)

    Stickified.

edit: Some day we should decide what to un-stickify, there perhaps are way too many stickies right now.

  • Hardly anyone plays ONS because of very simple reasons:
-) Many don't know of it or haven't tried it (not a fact, but an assumption)
-) There are hardly any ONS servers out there
-) Are there even MAPS for it? I only know of ONS-reborn, and this one, and if there are... where are they? :P

The HUD is also lacking. Frags are shown but there is nothing about the generators. When the game ends, it's just... odd.

The generators don't appear to take on damage either. The model looks the same for me then entire time.

There was an Ons server that popped up now and then a couple of weeks ago. Haven't seen it for a while. Was a lot of fun, even though there never were that many players on it.

As for getting more players to the various game-types (not just Ons):

I've suggested this before; Add game-type to the voting process. First let the players vote for the map — as they do now. Then let the players vote for the game type. Which alternatives are available in this last vote would depend on the game types available for that specific map, and the limits set by the server admin. For instance, the admin might only want CTF, Dom, and Ons games on his server. But the players vote for a map that supports KH, CTF, and Ons, and so the only options available for the last vote are CTF and Ons.

The advantage of this is that it becomes easier for players to try out a new game type, and the admins don't have to worry about the players abandoning their server because they don't like the one game type hosted on the server.

Yes, there are Ons maps. At least half a dozen.

  • If the changes I mentioned above get implemented, I will happily run a ONS server and actively try to get more players to try it out. I plan on running a few new game types in Washington DC with a good ping to both NA and EU.
