  • My first impression is that it is a very good looking design, and I generally like this style of map. If this is your first Nexuiz map, I look forward to the other maps that you create! :-D

The only negative feedback I have for your map is that it seems too small, like it needed to be scaled up slightly... maybe x1.1 scale. That is the only thing I can say negative about it.

    HOF:
<Diablo> the nex is a "game modification"
<Diablo> quake1 never had a weapon like that.
<Vordreller> there was no need for anything over 4GB untill Vista came along
    <Samua>]Idea: Fix it? :D
<Samua>Lies, that only applies to other people.

  • Nice map !
    Good and clean brushwork!
I made a quick demo running around in it.
    demo: http://strahlemann.pdk.cc/breathium.rar

    Some suggestions:
-scale the map up (i'd say smth. around 1.3 times original size) This will also cause having less head-bumpy areas.
    -make the lava deeper
-maybe swap the Nex with the Rocket Launcher or Hagar as the Nex is kinda useless on this kind of map.
    -player-clip these walls ;)

Scale was my only complaint as well :). Err... wait and the lava... you can walk on it. I'd prefer you sink.

    Great map otherwise!

Lava. Is. Not. Liquid! Finally, a mapper who recognizes that! Keep the lava how it is!

  • I've tried it out, small, quick, 1vs1 works best probably. I really like it and I'm looking forward to seeing it on the servers. A bit claustrophobic, though, I think the scaling idea is worth a try. Can't wait to see more ;) .

Also, I like the doom1-style lava, though I am not sure if this is realistic either. I say we write to the Myth Busters :D .

Lava is not so deep to drown in it, the depth of lava-pool is about 8 units. I think, it is normal )
I've rescaled map by 1.25 and tonight I will compile and upload it.

  • Why i mentioned the lava in the first place:

I believe that the lava-room should serve at least these purposes:
    - Holding a powerful weapon that is hard to reach, but it's still rewarding to go for it
    - Give some interesting architecture to fight around

Both already are in the map, but what they should do gets totally lost due to wrong scale and the non-lethal lava. You don't even care if the Nex would be hard to reach, as the lava is not dangerous (<- that's why lava should get more deadly/deeper).
The scale already breaks even more.
It's easily possible to jump from the side straight to the Nex, therefore noone will use the long "correct" way to the Nex through the middle of the map (which is a pity). Also having the platform where the Nex is higher would result in players having more vertical fighting. The upper player always has the advantage, but as it's kinda narrow up there and jumping down could easily fail due to the (deep) lava and some guy down there shooting at you, this will give some good fights. If the scale is correct.
Don't get me wrong here, i really like your map, and you've got some good architecture/lighting and layout. That's why i don't want to see this map failing due to something stupid like scale ;)

Aand again about the lava :P : I don't care if it's like "real" lava and you can walk on it or not. Lava is a gameplay-element which needs to be used as such in the right places and in the right amount. If all maps in Nexuiz would be realistic and physically correct you could also sit down with some friends, poking each other with branches and shouting "frag", instead of playing Nexuiz...
    sorry for the ranting...

I'm looking forward to the next version !

  • Lava can be liquid and not so dependant on the temperature, so I see no problem here. :)

    hahaha, wonderful imagery.

I do appreciate your explaination about the lava and the layout of maps. I see that you have this down to a science.

  • I don't really agree with the nex swap / the boards up to it but everything else looks great.

Also, future reference. It's suggested you use the naming convention: mapname_v#r#

    Where v = version and r = revision. i.e. my_cool_map_v1r4

  • CPMA can use alternate weapon/item layout. Can Nexuiz do something like it or we need to rebuild map to swap one weapon and two items?

    Ok.

  • if you just want to quickly change some weapons or the item placement on a map, start it up in nexuiz, open the console and type "sv_saveentfile". This will store a file called mymap.ent in your Nexuiz/data/maps folder.
This file holds all the entity-informations of your map.
Now you can edit it using a text-editor of your choice, so you don't need to recompile your whole map.
But i suggest that you also do the changes in radiant, so if you have to recompile the map again for another version of it or whatever, you don't have to edit the ent file again.

  • Well, this is one of the best candidates (IMO) for the 1on1 pack that we are working on.
    http://forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=
I myself think that it should be included in a future release of Nexuiz because of it's very good details and gameplay.

As the pack is going to be released under the GPL v2 license and additionally, we wish to make a couple of small tweaks to the map, it needs to be GPL'd if we want it included. I think there was a couple of non-free textures in the map, but I'm quite sure we could easily replace those with something free. (as in speech)
www.burningwell.org for example is a good source of completely free to use textures.

  • So the .map is gpl? :P
Edit: Could you also say which texture was from the for non-commercial use pack?
    Edit2: is it brick2.jpg? :p

    Thanks.
