[Map] Future Factory

  • Future Factory:

    Im almost done with this map but i wanted to show you it right now :D

    its a small map made for 2 to 5 players.

    It has high quality textures.
    I did make all textures myself, except the glass and the jumppad texture.

  • Im sure its going to be a fun DM map ;) Looks maybe a tiny bit cubic, but the textures are nice! The "factory" name is strange however :P

  • Looks good, but....don't make a small map!

    Make it big enough for a server to use it, like for 6-12 players

    Otherwise, it won't likely get played.

  • Yeah I agree on that, its size is strange, you know if you create a DM map it certainly looks too small for the standard 8 player setup, and if you would create a 1on1 map, it should have different (non-mirrored) layout. Maybe you should extend it on 1-2 places ;)

  • design tip: use light sources like lamps in places where you use light-entities. Light doesn't come from nowhere...

    I will make some round corners, so it isnt that blocky
    and FraNco, i don't know a better name for it, do you know one ? :D

    and there are almost never 12 people in a dm server, ok there are but there are many servers with 1on1 or 2on2, and i wanted to make a small map, ill make more big maps in future.

  • Ok, the map is done,

    -I made some contours in the map
    -I made another hole in the walls for more action
    -I replaced the hlac with another mortar
    -I renamed the map with "future_arena" (couldn't find a better name :) )
    -I made put some light sources in it like lamps
    -I put the strength powerup and a large armor in the map

    But.. i have always trouble with making the pk3.

    What am i doing wrong all the time.
    If i test it in the maps browser i only see the name of the map and the image.
    but not the title and the author.

  • Iirc those things go in the bsp. Add them to the worldspawn entity.

    There's an autogenerated mapinfo in

    ~/.nexuiz/data/data/maps

    or something..

    Edit it and move it to live alongside your .map file. Then add it to the pk3

  • hmm i cant find the auto-generated mapinfo in ~/data/maps

    and i also dont get what C.Brutail said about "add them to the worldspawn entity"

  • The autogenerated file is stored in nexuiz/data/data/maps/

    About the pk3:
    The .mapinfo and .rtlights files go directly into the /maps/ folder, not in a subfolder.
    You don't need to include the .prt file (and the .DS_Store files).

    You shouldn't put textures in your mappack which already are included with Nexuiz . Only if you edited them, but then with your own file/folder names, not named the same as the original files.

    And a last tip: If you want to test the pk3, make sure that you don't have the unpacked files in the data/map/, data/textures/ (and so on) folders, or they will be used instead of the ones packed in the pk3.

    Nope, but there are 8 players constantly on most DM servers. By bigger size I mean extending it, not scaling it.
    Actually I cant really tell too much about the playability of this map only by the pictures: maybe if you would release a version for the community for testing and feedbacks, we could have more accurate opinions about it. ;)

    i cant remove the .DS_store files, i have a program what shows hidden files, you don't see them.

    the textures aren't included in nexuiz, the trak5 textures are only in 2.5.2, but if there are servers with older versions it has to be, or not?
    ill remove the strale_grey sky textures

  • Sev, i still cant get it working, can you please help me.

    Could you make it a working pk3 of it. then i can learn of it and never have to ask it again

    in this zip file are the needed files.
    here.


    the title needs to be : future arena
    the author needs to be : [kay]
    i want it dm and arena. and maybe tdm, (i included info_player_team1 and 2 in the map, but i dont know if that is enough to make it working)

    could you do this for me please ( or someone els) then i have never to ask it again.

  • About the worldspawn entity: I don't know if it is possible to do that in NetRadiant, I simply open the .map file with a text editor to edit worldspawn keys.
    I put some keys into your .map file (they are at the top, below the line "classname" "worldspawn"), but it needs to be recompiled to have any effect on the .bsp file.

    About the map itself: Though it's relatively simple, I imagine it to be quite fun in 1on1 (Minsta) matches.

  • hmm thanks anyway but its still the same i can only play it at dm and arena and lms

    the title and author aren't there.

    why?

    i deleted all files and removed testpack from pk3 name

  • It works fine on my system:

    You probably have an "empty" .mapinfo file either in nexuiz/data/maps/ or nexuiz/data/data/maps, or in a pk3 in the data folder that includes a .mapinfo file with the same path and name.

  • thanks it works now i removed the .nexuiz folder, (i back up the stuff i needed)
    and it works, thank you for you help! 8)
