  • Interesting...

You might want to make the trigger_teleport a bit larger, as I could once fall thtough it (I was between two "ticks" of the server.

Also, my console says a jumppad is faulty.

  • Gameplay look interesting, one thing a bit confusing is the player location, the bases are all colored the same (green and pink), so it's not easy to determine where the action happened. Maybe replace the green floor by a red/blue one near the base, if the flower doesn't become too ugly...

I intended to fix that, but forgot.

Yeah... If you hit one of the jump-pads in the right place you shoot straight up instead of where you're supposed to go — and take some damage. I replaced all the jump-pads to fix it. Didn't seem to work. Not sure what to do about that. Thought I'd fixed it.. ;/

Confusion is good on a small map like this.. ;)

I don't think it's up on any servers yet though. No idea how the level actually plays. The bots are too dumb to give any kind of impression.

  • I'm uploaded v1r1 of Flower. Use the DL link in the OP to get it.

    Changes:

    • The teleporter brush is taller. Should reduce the chance of falling through.
    • Removed a dud push trigger.
    • Made a slight tweak to the lighting around the bases. Might not be noticeable during a game.
    • Tweaked the shape of the outer petals.
    • Added the hook weapon.

  • Played it on... one of the servers. I forget which. (v1, not 1r1 though. Hook might change play quite a bit)

I hate to say but it didn't seem to go down particularly well. My main gripe was the weapon placement with everything clustered in the bases. Also the fact the map is just made of platforms with long distance jump pads in between, I find this a big no-no with any map. It ruins flow and combat because everyone is just flying around constantly.

    It does look pretty though.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

It seems my maps tend to be hit or miss with most players. I've played this one twice on monastery, and the reception was mixed; some liked it, others hated it — as usual. I had fun playing it anyway. 8)

Also, I have the impression that many players hate new maps the first time they play them. Not just my maps, either. We'll see how this one goes. I'm guessing it will either end up like BlockScape or like BoxFlip.

  • Yeah I see the same thing happening. Its either love or hate then 'meh' eventually. Too many jumpy space maps around then people whine anyway when something different and slightly more complex shows up like Boxscape or Smelter.

I confess to do the same. Everytime i play a map for the first time i'm almost disgusted :) It gets better with time though ;D
