Man, shots like this only show even more that we need new player models BADLY!
    /ON

Great textures and lighting there. Having a source of the light would make it more natural though.

  • Progress is slow but not stopped. I have been spending a lot of time experimenting with creating photographic textures and normal maps. Not much actual mapping. Just so that you guys have something to run about in I decided to compile what I got so far. This is pre-alpha and just so I could get some ideas about where this project should be headed.

    http://xoopstuner.com/nex/wip_photo_map.pk3

The map appears in the menu.

  • I think that its low enough poly. However I really dont think that a (semi)realistic human model is the look that Nexuiz tries to accomplish. Thats much more counter-strike. the texturing is pretty good though, and it looks nice for the # of polys youve got.

  • Well, personally I think the skin can be made "Nexuiz style" pretty easily by adding glowing stuff... and generic "my first Cyborg" features.

  • Yeah I know. I started this model before I came up with the idea of using it for nexuiz. I am going to change it significantly for nexuiz. I was going to characterize him a bit more and attach cybernetics to him so he looks like he fits in with the rest of the monsters. Maybe making his vest metal will help too. I dunno, give me advice on how to make him more "nexuiz". [/quote]

  • Well I suppose you could have a Seven of Nine character too, for those people who like to play females online q;

Or, you know, for the one female player that exists in the universe.

One of the suggestions for improving Nexuiz I've seen on these forums is better, more curvy player models. It's a valid request; most games have some sexy player models, as they appeal to a large portion of their demographic.

Awesome stuff Ivan. That is one great model you put together there. I personally want to see this in game. If guys think it doesn't match the other models then fine. I like it. Besides, just slap on a futuristic helmet and he'll blend right in.

  • I'd say no helm please. Just give hima nice armor, and he's set!

  • I think that's a fantastic model.

Some simple glowing bits on his body would be sufficient to make him more scifi. I don't think many major modifications need to be done.

  • Steady on. When we're all running render-farms in our bedrooms I'm sure the Nexuiz developers will get right on including those models and that water in the game!

A single 8800 rendered those in game shots using an AMD X2 4200+ getting 90-95 FPS.

Wont call it a "render farm"

Other than this i find anyone from the land New Zealand funny, don't know why its just how i am

But it's only a tech demo. Add a full blown game around that, with similar detail and you will need a render farm to archive playable framerates. (besides: how many ppl here actually have such a system?)

  • Rendering a few heads @ 90 fps on some of the most gfx powerfull hardware around is not impressive performance wise. granted they look preddy good, but not *that* fantastic.

(and the 8800 series basicaly IS a render farm btw...)
    HOF:
<Diablo> the nex is a "game modification"
<Diablo> quake1 never had a weapon like that.
<Vordreller> there was no need for anything over 4GB untill Vista came along
    <Samua>]Idea: Fix it? :D

  • It never fails. Everybody wants eye candy screenshots. The reason we need a photo-real maps is just to convince people like cyan that nex can look as good as commercial games.
The head demo is more about the blurring and soft shadows than a realistic head. Do you really expect to see this kind of detail IN GAMES anytime soon? Halo 3 won't be looking anything like this.
Remember doom 3? Upgrade your PC, play for 2 weeks (wow @ graphics), go back to unreal and quake. Hats off to directx 10 but graphics ain't everything.

  • The "water picture" is actual in game footage, the model picture is a show-tech picture how the model faces can actually look using DX10.

Thats why i said the FPS measures, refereed to the water picture.

It is *not* an ingame shot. That photo has been label as an artist's impression of how MS Flight Simulator should look like in DX10.
