  • I've only seen one map in Nex use fog (one of the tzork's, I think), so while it's not particularly widely-used, yes it is possible :)

  • I would not recommend using fog, at least not if the idea is to reduce the line of sight, because a: it requiers some fetures that not all gpus have, and b: any client can disable the fog localy at any time by using "fog 0" in the console. And if the map uses the fog to limit the line of sight, the ones that disables the fog gain an unfair advantage.

<Diablo> the nex is a "game modification"
<Diablo> quake1 never had a weapon like that.
<Vordreller> there was no need for anything over 4GB untill Vista came along
    <Samua>]Idea: Fix it? :D
<Samua>Lies, that only applies to other people.

Well a) was a bug (that seems to be fixed) and i would really like a way to disable b) ;)

Note that dmtower is one of the ugliest maps ever, but fun to play... and the screenshots are really good... looks like fog is what the map needs :P
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • I tell ya... fog can really add a cool mood to a map. Either a dark spooky feel, dusty gun smoke, smooth light or biohazard. But it's difficult to make it look good because it depends on your video settings, effects and the map. So everyone has to adjust it by one self.

  • Is there any way to make a map use fog by default? I'm making a map which needs fog to look right

  • You can set the values with your mapcfg file, as whatever is in it is used as the map is launched. So all of the fog values would appear at the map's start (though the user could turn it off after the map is loaded)

  • The syntax for fog is

    fog <density> <red> <green> <blue>

    (e.g. fog 0.1 1 1 1 for thick white fog)

I recommend putting that into the worldspawn of the map, not into a config file. Just add another key.
