  • Is it in any way possible to do mapping for Nexuiz on a Mac? I think there is a version of GTKRadiant for Mac, but will it work for this? Also is there any other way to do it without using Radiant?

there is a version of GTKRadiant, yes, but the easiest way is to grab radiant 1.5, install it, and get the nexuiz plugin for it. I'll make a zip of it for you quick...

  • Thanks for that, but I'm having trouble even getting radiant to run. I think it's an X11 problem.I have to dig out the install disc and re-install X11.
This is the message I get in the console:

    /Applications/MacRadiant14.app/Contents/Resources/script: line 18: open-x11: command not found
    Could not get display!

  • well I'm not too sure how mac really works, does mac use X11 as the display manager?

Anyways, it could be because there is no xserver currently running, that's all I can think of at the moment...

  • OK I got Radiant up and running. I have 1.4 & 1.5, but I can't get it to recognize that file you sent me, ' nexuiz.game'. The only thing it gives me is Quake 3. I'm really a noob at this, so bear with me. I guess Quake 3 was part of the install package. Like when it first starts it prompts me to pick a game. I tried typing in nexuiz.game but it didn't work.

oh, and yes it does use it as a display manager, I think. When I start radiant X11 starts too automatically.

  • ok, the zip I gave you only works for radiant 1.5, and you extract it to the root dir of radiant (for me, this is "/home/psychiccyberfreak/.radiant/1.5.0"). After that you can delete the package.
The folder structure of /home/psychiccyberfreak/.radiant/1.5.0 is now:

    Code: Select all
    ,-+nexuiz.game
    |  |-local.pref
    |  '-shortcuts.ini
    |-global.pref
    |-junk.txt (if you compiled something allready)
    |-qe3bsp.sh (again, if you compiled something allready)
'-radiant.log (if you have logging enabled)

  • I was editing my post above while you posted that..

IIRC (has been a while since I've been on a mac) you can just put the package into ~/.radiant/1.5.0/ , right click on it and hit extract here.

  • It's still not showing up. I have "Nexuiz.Game Folder" in "~/.radiant/1.5.0/". When I downloaded it it came with some game packs, about 5 of them, those are all there, but no nexuiz.

I'm currently using MacRadiant 1.4 (google for it). It seems to work the way it should. It doesn't have native upport for Nexuiz, but that can be hacked by expanding Nexuiz's data[numbers].pk3 and then moving the textures, models, and scripts folders into Quake3's baseq3/ folder. Finally, drop Nexuiz's entities.def script into the scripts folder. Make sure it's the right one.

You also need to have X11 installed.

Could you please give a little more instruction in doing this I'm not sure about expanding nexuiz data .pk3

The data .pk3 I'm talking about is in nexuiz/data/. It's not called "data.pk3", mind you. It's "data [lotsa numbers].pk3". Just drop it on stuffit expander or any other unzipping application. When you open it, you'll find the three folders I mentioned; models, textures, and scripts. I don't remember offhand where I got the entities.def file though. But I think you'll find a link to it in one of the [MAP] threads I've started.

Once you've got the folders and the entities.def file in place, set MacRadiant to make Quake3 levels and you're ready to start mapping.

Do you have the option of making a new project file? If not, then I'll let somebody more knowledgeable take over.

I think I can make a new project file, just call it "nexuiz"?

I think you're supposed to enter the name of your map there.
