  • Hi, i'm using blender and wanna export mdl file. I look on google for an exporter but didn't find anyone.

Does it exist or should i export in another format to export in mdl?

  • MDL is such an old format... If you can you should use md3 or zym. The Zym format is still hard to compile from blender, so md3 is your only practical choice (unless you can code). There is a md3 export script floating around the internet somewhere...

I guess that means yes ;)

  • Blender's MD2 exporter sucks.

You may want to export a SMD file but there's no good exporters for that either

  • If you like I could post the MD3 exporter I use, it works ok with Nexuiz so long as you don't want tags.

  • :( Once again I make a request for the specs of the ZYM or DPM format... Or even the source of the SMD>ZYM java tool.
I haven't been able to find a reliable SMD importer or exporter for Blender.
The reality is that there is currently no practical way to get anything from blender into Nexuiz.

If anybody can even point me to the part of the DP source which reads ZYM I will make a Blender export script myself :!:

Iirc the problem with the source of the zym java tool was: no one here ever heard about such a tool written in java :P
The only zym/dpm converters i know are zmodel and dpmodel written in C by LordHavoc.

Well, i can point you to the source for zmodel and dpmodel, i guess that's far more helpfull than the dp source for reading those models.
And perhaps a DPM exporter for Blender would be better, since according to LordHavoc that format is superior to ZYM ;)

Yes, but afaik Nexuiz's animation system would have to be reworked to use DPM.
