redoing/polishing old maps

  • Slimepit Revisited sparked this idea:
    Consider polishing already available maps before starting a new one.

    SilverCity would be nice with smoother edges, or completely removing the railings from ramps, in the style of Strahlenex. A more shiny, metallic texture would be good too.

    Basement is screaming for a larger version! (other than the CTF version)

    And i've been dreaming of a Skyway-SilverCity-hybrid since i started playing Nexuiz.

  • Well the Nexuiz maps were originally composed of two types: converted Q1, and Q3 maps, or converted Q3 fan-maps; so redoing the maps would take a significant amount of time.

    Redoing maps carries the risk of not capturing the same charm as the original map, Runningman, and Runningman_1on1remix are a good example.

    However hybrid maps are possible, and they seem like an interesting design concept... mmm... Silver Skyway.

    no right most of then Nexuiz self made and not converted and the converted maps(darkzone,Warfare) got many changes.


    The main Problem with new textures on silvercity is that
    better textures= worser Performance
    and the performance on silvercity is very worse atm.

    Why do you think starship has no source? Have you played ame7q3tny1?
    There are tons of converted official Q1 and Q3 maps: Aggressor, Silvercity, Darkzone, DSI, etc.
    There are also tons of converted fanmade Q3 maps: Warfare, Evil space, and I would also infer most of Strahlemann's original maps.
    These were the original Nexuiz maps, however; now we have a large percentage of made for Nexuiz maps: Bluesky, Toxic, Ruiner are examples.

  • Silvercity suffers most from the lack of texture blending support, I think. Even with new textures, you'd still be able to get to the top and look down and see it repeating.

  • @Silver City: mind the textures, but smoother edges would make a faster and smoother game play. i think there are some unnecessary polys, so performance could be improved too.
