Shotgun Model Replacement ...

  • That old shotgun model was inaczeptable at all ... it was that weapon of nexuiz that looked like a toy at all ... like some of these "NERF" Softball weapons ...

    In my other Thread to the lazer people said that they want some more oldscool shotgun ... so i made this here ... I took a look on some winchester weapon pictures and falled in love to some black one ... so i modelled this one here ... :

    like u can see i have still to do somethin on the Bump/Normal map of the weapon ... but i think its better than the old shotgun at all ... by the way ... i made the shots with a viewing angle of 110 degrees ...
    However ... i think this shotgun just looks much more oldscool like that standart one from nexuiz ...

    I will look after some animation for this weapon in the old doom style ... that means i want to make that the weapon is liftet up after each shot and that reload grip will be pushed back by the invisible hands ... :) ... like i said in the other thread i hope i can find some free to use Sound that fits to that weapon ...

    Maybe someone here can help me with that ? ... If anyone can make me some sound that fits ... i pls u to do ... and if someone wants to do that for me ... just look for the standart sound for best sound fitting into the game ...

  • Very nice Doc-Pyton!

    Sorry I can't help you with the sound, I think it should sound something like THIS but I have no idea if it's free for use. Maybe find someone with a real shotgun and tell him to record the sound for you :).

    Anyways, great work.

  • lol ... im from germany ... I think it will be not to easy to find someone that has a shotgun here ... ;) ... i could go to the police or somethin and pls them to let me record ... but i think the police here would never let me get close to their shooting range ...

    But thats some good idea ... ;) if someone here owns some shotgun or knows anyone that have one ... he could record the shooting sound with reloading for me ... :)

  • Doc, that looks awesome. Much better than the original. I think a black skin would be cool. Maybe I could make one up and Nexuiz could let the player choose or something?

    Anyway again dude great going because that rocks.

  • That thing with animation is wired ... in the first Firing mode the used animation isnt played full ... and in the second fire mode the animation is running while the weapon makes three shots ... it looks like as replacement there's no way to make my animationwishes real ...

    But we will get rid of that for our mod ... with a bit code based animation ...

    By the way i searched around and didn find any good free to use sound for the weapon ... so i tryd to make one with "GoldWave" ...
    Creating sounds is not my world ... <_< ...

    However here's some example from this terrible soundeffect ... I think i need somethin better ... but this is the best i can do ...

  • Heh nice work! lazer too, bw. The tetxure could use a lil polish, but overall its a big improment. Very nice to see some active modelers here; keep up the good work!

  • Yeah it looks like it's going to be awesome. The animation could be a bit more dramatic, though. And it needs some hands reloading it, obviously.

    BTW, I could probably do a muzzle flare for you if you want. Something like this maybe?

  • The muzzleflash is no problem ...
    The Problem is, Im Designing the weapon model replacements so ... that everyone can just copy the model into his data directory ...

    For use with Nexuiz without our Mod ...
    So u can only change the model ...

    Everythin else ... like another weaponflash ... and thislike ... must be done with the sourcecode ... that means these changes are only able in addition with our mod ...
    Its a real pitty that i can't add that animationthing as a replacement ...

    but thanks anyway ... ur muzzleflash looks pretty good ...

    You could animate the muzzle flash as part of the firing animation...

  • thats some interesting idea ... but the animation of the shotgun is wired ... like i said before, both firemodes are using the "fire1" animationframe of the .zym file ...

    But in Most of cases the animation wont be finished on the first firing mode and is only played one time slowly over the three shots in the second fire mode.

    I tryd out a bit and the only way animating the model is like it is animated now.
    Everythin else needs codingworks, and with coding the things are no problem.

    Like i said without our MOD, the only thing i can do with the shotgun is to give it a new sound and this model.
    I wish i could do more. If some other modeller's around here that knows about that problem, i could use some help with this. If there's some possibility to add things like that without changing the source code, i like to know how.

  • The shot sounds good. The reloading doesn't imo :wink:

    Good work so far. I'd like to see some more sci-fi knickknack though. The laser and your Nex model are much more appealing to me.

  • after i played around a bit with textur shaders on testweapons, i decidet to make some new model for the nex ... ;)

    The Shotgun is the only weapon in nexuiz that shouldn be a high tech weapon ...
    the Machinegun will be replaced with somethin between futuristic design and the standart machinegun imagination ...
    Ill try to keep the design of the rest of the weapons and improve it with textureshaders and a bit more detail ...

  • You said you can't change it but can't you make it jump up a little higher when you shoot?

    Also the pump action bit at the front.. shouldn't this come back a little further. And it needs some hands, too. That'd be awesome.

  • Dont u think it would be kind of strange if the shotgun is the only weapon that's using hands ?
    The higher uplifting is no problem, that will be done after i'm finished with the texture ...
    Like i said the Normal/Bump map isnt right atm. , I think the texture resolution is just to low, so i will make it a bit higher to get rid of that problem.

    Another thing is the smokepuff in front of the shotgun.
    My Model looks to be a bit longer than the old one, so the position of that puff isnt right ...
    But the correcture of it needs codingworks too.

    Im thinking of some modified progs.dat that could be used with the model replacements for standartnexuiz. But that could occure errors with other clients. I dont know.
    If that progs.dat modification is some possibility i could fix the other problems, like that animation and muzzleflash thing too.
    Only matter with that option is that people have to replace every model thats changed in the progs.dat for the right appearence.

    I dont know if its possible to make our mod compatible with the standart client.
    Im not the coder ;) so i dont know about that things.

    In any case i will try everythin i can to give my models the best look.

  • It doesn't matter if it's the only weapon with hands. It just doesn't look right without them.

    And yeah, you're right, some smoke would be cool.

    It would look even worse with hands... Because with hands there's the problem that either all models get the same hands or you have to model a ridiculous amount of different hands, which isn't worth the effort imho...

  • I think there was a similar discussion about hands in one of the other threads. Some people are fine with there being a generic set of hands, others don't like that. Maybe we could have it so that the models are made with hands, but it's only optional if you actually see them or something.

    In other words the weapons with hands could be pulled back or something unless you have the option to see the hands in which case they come forward so you can see more of them including the hands.

  • Or, just two seperate models: one compiled with hands and one without. I think hands would be really out of place.
