Remove nexball.pk3 from your data directory; keep it in data/dlcache. pk3s in dlcache can be played by the client but will not be loaded by your server.

  • Hey I played your mod quite a bit on pavlvs's server, it's a LOT of fun. Gotta say I enjoy the ball that you hold a lot more than the one you kick.

    Here's few suggestions:

-A pickup sound when you pick the ball up, because there's a couple players fighting for it, it's a bit hard to tell who has it. I remember a discussion on irc that it's impossible for now to have icons like CTF, but maybe you could use CTF ones for now?

-A kick button for the soccer ball, because right now it's a mess when playing even 2vs2, everyone is jumping on the ball like crazy and you can't really make passes. I admit that might be because I haven't figured the physics of it yet, but it doesn't seem like other did either.

-Once you've figured how to steal, it's VERY easy, once people get good at the mod it's going to be painful and annoying, you'll probably have to lower the range or refire rate.

That's about it, keep up the good work, I'm sure your mod will become very popular.

  • Having been there, I can sympathize with you totally. I lost a game I had been working on for about two years (it'd been in hiatus for about six months so it wasn't really on my mind) when a partitioner destroyed my hard drive. It sucks... really hard.

  • Sorry, I'm too stupid to get all that stuff into the correct folders...
On Mac, do I have to put the folder into the hidden folder on the home's directory or should I just put it into the folder that I find on my Desktop? xD

Both should work, but using the folder on your desktop is probably easier for you...

  • Happy one-year thread resurrection!

I do this for a reason...

Nexball is on its way... I'm slowly recoding it (I'm in exams, can't fully concentrate on that code so)

Ball movement is done already, I have to code goals, ball return and scoring (plus some internals like mapinfos). But the physics part is all done.
I had to "decompile" (translate from debug progs disassembly) the soccer-kind of ball, the physics of that are coded on two lines but they're quite touchy to tweak, I wanted it to feel exactly like it did, rather than have even messier movement :p
I recoded the basket ball from scratch, and I'm considering using the port-o-launch slot instead of the mortar's for ball control, so the mappers can place weapons (not too much please :p) on the map.

I hope to get things done for February. At least a fairly playable beta release. I got some people to test the ball movement and they liked it.
Revenant is supporting my project, which is actually his, heh ;) Kudos to him
    Meh.

  • Wow, nice. Did you try frikdec to decompile so you wouldn't need to look at intermediate code?

EDIT: I saw you did, so don't pay attention and gl.

  • Yay Mr.Bougo \o/

I will help contribute to this new version of Nexball with some quality maps. I might make another ball model that is a little more futuristic as well :)

I actually didn't know about FrikaC's decompiler, Ronan told me about it yesterday...
I reverse-engineered using the prvm_printfunction command on a server running the 2.3 nexball. Printed out something like this for example: http://pinkrobot.pastebin.com/m16afc728
It's quite easy to guess how that works :p
    Meh.

  • In anticipation of MrBougo's recreation of the nexball mod, I am making some of the old PB made nexball maps graphically a bit more appealing. The first map I have done is Basketball, so here is a shot of basketball_remake_v1r1:

    Image

I will post screenshots of other maps when I finish them.
    Now with new shiny avatar.

  • Cant wait to play Morphed's and div's remake of SuckerSocks with nexball.

Or some 3v3 Football matches on PB_rink (or however it was called), good old times :-)
btw, looks great PinkRobot. Can remember the basketball map too. Dont forget to make a nice volleyball map. Maybe with the terain of sev's Cleft_village?
