[MAP] angryred_v1r2 (Off-World Vacation Home Massacre)

  • After a little re-thinking, and learning a few new items for mapping, I've created this vacation home on another planet where people can get together and frag each other. It's got a pool and diving board! And one of them big screen tv's too! I wanted to get outside with the map, not as dark, and just have some fun with it.
    I'm releasing this into the wild! This map works with bots, and they actually seem to be enjoying themselves. I think this map would fit 4-6 players max.

  • I tested with bots, I think it's fun to play, nice work.
    Since there aren't many space to move inside the building, weapon like hagar or crylink become strong weapons there, but maybe not important enough to go inside when you have nex+rl+armor+megahp outside. Add a second armor in the lava room may solve the problem. Also item_shells are generally useless, you should replace it with a item_rockets ammos in the tv room.

  • Thank you Ronan. I did the changes as you suggested. I'm having trouble with the missing shaders... seems those are in 'hidden' areas, and some are very small. I did clean up a bit of it, recompiling the map now, it will be up as a beta version 2 in a bit.

  • Updated to Beta 2, still some texture issues... how to find textures on surface you cannot see? ugh....

  • It isn't important if textures you can't see are missing (you can still use a text editor to replace them with caulk for example).

    Anyway, I noticed your trigger_hurt isn't large enough, with many hp you can go through and still be alive. That can't happen if there is no space between it and the skybox (nice one btw ;). When you correct it, keep in mind that falling down during a too long time is (IMO) boring ...
    Another point, you should add a second spawn point in the building, that important in 1on1. The crylink room should be a good place.

    Don't forget to remove the windows thumbs.db in your zip, after that you should get your final version of the map :)

  • Ah, silly me... I knew I can replace the textures in the .map file (text editor), duh, I've done it before! Sometimes I forget simple things like that.

    I'll fix the trigger_hurt, and some other items. Are there new 'rules' for packing? Are there any other game modes that would work well for this map?

  • I've released this as a 'production' map, posted up top. I've set up the .pk3 using the new format. I've added a Key Hunt mode, but I'm not sure how to test it (I've not setup a keyhunt server mode, I run a server at home for testing).

  • Thanks for doing this - I just want to say that the very first version of a map does not NEED a version number, it will be sorted correctly anyway as long as you use the underscore as separator. But of course, it can have a version number.

    The map is detected as: Image

    Description can be filled in later.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

    You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Have you added the Keyhunt mode? It would be a welcome addition to my Keyhunt server.

  • Hello, I oopsed.. I just fixed the music config, so now the song plays too, I kept the same version number however, if I need to fix that... let me know, thanks! Otherwise, redownload v1r2, thanks!
