[MAP] SilverCity - Reloaded

  • I always liked this map, but the visuals of the original are rather dull. So i made a an atempt to make a nicer looking one, and in the proccess changed some other things too. enjoy.

    This version includes normal/offset/gloss maps for all of the evil8 textureset. Some other maps will look 'updated' too with this one in yer data/ dir.

  • Somehow this reminds me of a new car, can you supply new car smell also? one for Div perhaps, mixed with fog. New car smell fog :O

    I really like the original silvercity also, going for a wander right now, thanks Tzork!

  • awesome man! but please, can you remove the "railings"? they are a real decelerator. (i mean on the stairs, ramps and such. i think the style of the Strahleman maps would fit nicely.

    Not sure what you mean.. If you mean the raised outer parts of the ramps (with a blue glowy trim on), thats a no. Thise are there in the orig too, and i like them alot. I dont see how they slow things down eigther.. well uness you steer yer chara like a drunk driver ;) Maybe in some other remake, perhaps done by you, this could be done 8)

  • You committed one sin that may either be the rise or the downfall of this map. You put a Nex on it...
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

    You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

    Yeh.. i know. i may have to change that. however every time i play the old one i seriously miss a nex ;) (and my source map for the orig does have it..?)

  • Hmmm, i think the point of Silvercity is that you end up running round the bottom bit in endless mortar/RL running battles, putting the nex in this map?
    As it doesn't have that huge open space at the bottom, I guess it won't be so bad, but snipers will be snipers and all that open framework up there might be too tempting for them. Mebbe there could be a silvercitylite with no nex?

  • Hmmm- I actually don't think this map is good enough to be included in 2.4. It's good, but not great.

  • I think it should replace the current silvercity. Just the same way reslimed replaced slimepit.

  • I really don't like fog on maps. I know it helps with performance but it's a bit annoying.

    Anyways, the map looks really cool, much better then the old silver city.

  • Actually, fog does NOT increase performance, but actually DECREASE it a bit. But it makes the map look better.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

    You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • What it does do is it gives some maps a specific mood which they would lack otherwise.

    On silvercity, it makes nothing invisible. The only map on which fog actually COVERS stuff is notme.
