  • My files/folders are as follows:

    maps:
    mapname.bsp
    mapname.cfg
    mapname.jpg
    mapname.map
    mapname.mapinfo

    textures:
    mapname:
    (list of custom textures.jpg)

As for the map itself, I've added the "message mapname" and "author myname" to the worldspawn.

I removed the .DS_Store files (cuz I'm on OS X), and did "zip -r mapname *", and then renamed the .zip to .pk3 in the file info dialogue.

The resulting .pk3 does not show in the map selection menu in Nex. The odd thing is that before I added the custom textures, it did show in the menu. But removing the custom textures does not help. The map no longer shows in the menu.

What am I doing wrong here?

  • Do you have the new version of Nexuiz? There was something wrong with how Nexuiz read Mac .zips in 2.4

I downloaded the most recent version after reading your reply just to make sure I was using the right version. Does not work. But Caverna, one of my older maps, does show in the menu.

Info-ZIP should work fine, so the weird osx zip options are probably not the cause...

@Clueless Newbie: are there any errors in the console?

I just nabbed the newest full version. Where can I find the hotfix?

As for .zip programs — I used the same one I always use. It worked just fine when I was making .pk3s with the previous setup.

    Yep:

    ———

Added Packfiles (all the custom .pk3s — including the ones that won't show in the menu)
    Loading library Offscreengecko.dylib failed
    Couldn't exec data/campaign.cfg
    Couldn't exec autoexec.cfg
    Draw_cachepic: failed to load gfx/complete
    Draw_cachepic: failed to load gfx/inter
    Draw_cachepic: failed to load maps/Caverna

    ———

There was a whole bunch of other stuff in the console too. Loading messages and so on. "Caverna" is the old map that does show in the menu — just not the preview pic.

  • The best is to release your zip/pk3, it will be easier to see what is wrong :)

    Good idea. Here:

It's just a box at this point. Trying to get it to work, is all.. ;)

  • Odd, the pk3 is loaded correctly, I can play the map from the console, but it don't appear in the create menu. I don't see any error in the pk3 and in the mapinfo.

  • But it can :)
.mapinfo does not have the line
    has weapons

that will make it only appear in minsta mode.. Does it really not have weapons spawn points? Or maybe try to delete that file again and have it regenerate.
Read Nexuiz/Docs/mapping.txt for more info about mapinfo

    Aha...

Now the maps work. Thanks. B)

The map in question is a test level. Just a box with some player spawns. No weapons.

  • When I made a test map in radiant (also on OSX) I could only load it into Nexuiz once, and then it started disregarding any newer versions. You are not alone. I also moved my nex directory, so Radiant stopped working, and I can't help you with console errors. I should go fix that.
I think the problem is when Nexuiz "generates info for newly added maps" It doesn't load the new data for maps that it thinks it already has.

Well yes and no.. in some way you are right but its not a problem.. this autogeneration is indented to help old (pre-mapinfo) maps and to give the mapper a file he can work on. The mapper IS supposed to edit and include that file in his pk3. So ofcourse if it was generated once it will not be changed. But as i saidk the mapper is supposed to change it anyway..
