quick gpl question

  • If I modified the nex gun to use in a game project, I´ll have to redistribute it under gpl, right (and clearly say so of course) ?
    Does it matter if other content packages and software uses other licenses (such as zlib/CC) ?
    Of course it´s all free open source stuff.. ,non commercial..

    Yes, you have to redistribute it under GPL, but you can mix multiple licenses in your project. You just need to clearly state which license applies to which files. Usually you would do that by putting a textfile named COPYING, LICENSE or something like that.

    Of course it´s all free open source stuff.. ,non commercial..

    Great. Of course the non-commercial part isn't required, but it's cool :)
    You should post a link here once you have released it :D

    The project I plan to use it in is just a personal side project that I have in mind. So it´s not sure if I ever get to skin it..

    However, I prepared the nex, I added a scope, and deleted about 100 unneeded polys, so polycount ended up at only +100 (1008 in total).
    The model is slightly rotated so I fixed that up a little. Lenghtened the barrel thingy a little too.
    I did a new unwrap as well.

  • It´s all lined up. It´s the lines playing tricks, and the camera fov too.

    Its the FOV that fools you.. the part that is white, has a identical counterpart on the opposite side, but its in 0 deg angle frm the FOV, so you cant see it :)

    Morphed did. Just have a look in the Nexuiz credits for his full name to credit.

    Not animated yet, but since the animation and glow and spec maps and all that are quite diffrent in the engine I use, you´d have to readjust all that anyways.

    Thnx again to the nexuiz team for gpl´ing their stuff. :D

  • It´s an insta hit gun, just like nexgun or railgun, gonna have zoom and "rocket jump" (no cost) alternate fire.

    That´s what you meant with "what does it do" I think ?

    Right on, thats what i mean. Looks a bit like a cool version of a flame thrower, or one of those MEGA weapons the shoot a big blue ball of goo that melts stuff.

  • Which game are you workng on? Cos that gun looks bloody cool. I'd love to see that backported into Nexuiz, even if only to use in minstagib...

  • Thanx guys.
    The game(working title:"Supergib") will be based on the sauerbraten engine (Cube2).
    It´s gonna be all about instagib (this one big gun only), but wil add some features to spice it up.
    Trickjumps (weapon jumping), funny poweups, awards and stuff. I actually got inspired by some server side nexuiz mod, where ppl would drop ammo after getting fragged, and I thought "hey cool idea adding something to plain insta".
    It´s in pre production phase (making textures and models atm) so it´s gonna take a while still.
