DOM maps - any particular trick to them?

  • I thought I might make the map I'm working playable as a DOM map. Is there more to this than just dumping a bunch of DOM objects on the map?

    And..

Do people play DOM games? I can't remember seeing any on the servers. Ever.

  • Well domination is a nice gamemode but indeed it never caught many players. maybe it will change with this nice big outdoor map Morphed did. But his map needs the upcoming version 2.4.1 to work (or the hotfix) on the server side.
Maybe dom will be played more if there are SERVERS for it? :)

If you keep a simple map its just dom points all over the map.. if you want for more fighting make that fewer points. Or try a similar approach as Morphed and make capturing dom points also affect the spawn points (new feature in 2.4.1..)

Yeah, that might help. Something else I'd like to see are servers that have more than one game-type. It's either DM or CTF. Nothing else. There was a KH server, but it didn't attract enough players. I wonder how things would go with a server that let the players not only vote for maps but also game-types.

Well, I'll keep it simple for now, so I'll just drop DOM points all over the map. No point in putting in a lot of work over something that will probably never be used.

Wouldn't mind playing some DOM though. Just too see what it's like.

Cool. I was thinking about that too for my upcoming map.
I think fewer DOM-points on a map would be better. Max 4 on a medium sized map. That will make the game more strategic. I liked playing domination in ut2k4 and there were by far not as many dom-points than on the regular nexuiz-maps. Also keep in mind that you're able to change the amount of frags a DOM-point can give per 5(?) seconds.

I played a Minstagib-DOM game once on a server i can't remember (and i doubt it's still out there). It was pure fun :D
So please get more DOM-servers up and running !

  • UT2k4's dom was totally different from UT99/Nex's, because there were only two dom points, and you had to have both of them in order to score points. Which did definitely make it more strategic. Maybe double dom could be worked into nex... ?
