  • I thought this could be a good place to dump some imagery and ideas for map designers to help with the creative process.

  • Some of those match ideas I've had in the past for maps; unfortunately I'm not very good at making them (see: the first ctf_greatwall release) so I didn't get very far. My ambition exceeds my talent significantly.

    The only way to become good at mapmaking is to make maps. If you have the interest and ambition then just keep at it. Sooner or later you'll get the knack.

    And keep this in mind; egg & bacon is one of the more popular maps, and it isn't exactly the most complicated map out there.

  • I thought of designing a map based on the inside of a fridge once. Just thought you might want to know.
    Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

  • haha, that would be funny :-)

    hmm, and not too hard. A lot of the stuff in the fridge is made up of somewhat simple shapes.

  • thx for all that pictures, imho most useful would be sceenshots from different sci-fi movies showing walls, buildings, corridors and all kind of decorations, just plz dont post nice screen where main hero hides everything behind him

  • Problem with Fridge CTF would be where to put the flags. One at the top, one at the bottom? Maybe put them in opposite vegetable boxes so the players have to move all over the map to get them?
    Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

    A wide, dual-door style fridge?

    And somehow have it so the bases are at the top of each side and they are (unrealistically) connecetd at the bottom via a bottom freezer section.

    Or have the fridge doors open (tisk tisk...wasting electricity) and allow people to jump from one side to the other?

    That's a good request, but it's turning out to be somewhat challenging. I'll work on it! :-)

  • I'm mixing from different sources, so not all of them are from Ryan Church. Just the Star wars images. Man, that guy is talented. I would love for Nexuiz maps to have that mix of organic and technology look and feel.
