  • I think these build settings is smarter/better - Standard Nexuiz map-compile settings (tested and works):

I have no idea what BSPC.EXE is doing, it's not needed for Nexuiz so I removed it from build settings.

  • iirc BSPC.EXE makes the aas bot route files for quake3 bsp files. So yes, it's not neede for nexuiz.

Well I like that GtkRadiant is open source and is on multiple OSes.
I just can't make a map with just a wire diagram.
I can make a real quick and simple map with QuARK.
I wish QuARK had a version for Linux and OS X atleast.

    You could use both.
    I haven't tried ZeroRadiant(aka GtkRadiant 1.6) yet.
I am not a mapper just starting to look at maybe making one.

  • Good Job wizzy ,And thanx . You always seem to make things better . I set it up and runs great . I just need to learn the Quark. Great tut you made also . its easy to follow . Thumbs up !!

well LIONZ, it depends . Right now Quark is in the beta stages so back it up every step. it seems to have simpler functions and is more user friendly . GTKR is tried and tested . alot of maps you see and play are made by GTKR . i use it and it works for me . There are many tutorials on GTKR because it can be overwhelming and confusing but knowledge is power . This is not say that it doesnt have some bugs . For the most part it runs fine .Nevertheless back it up no matter what . when i build on a map i usually have more than one of the same map . example1, example2 , example3 . If you are interested in mapping i would suggest Quark , as its simplicity seems appealing and does what gtk can do from what i hear . just follow Merlwiz79's tut from above and you should be good to go . if not try gtk . Good Luck!

  • My thoughts on Quark:
I first used Quark around 2002 I think. And it haven't changed much since then. So you can not expect major updates from Quark in the furture (I hope I am wrong :P). And cdunde has left the Quark dev team so progress will be even slower now (I guess).
The worst thing about Quark is that it's really sluggish with big and complex maps (like ons-reborn.map). The software rendered 3D view is ugly and the OpenGL 3D view is buggy (you can't see entities and sometimes you can't see the selected brushes).
The brushes more than often gets "off-grid" and snap-to-grid doesn't always work.
And some Nexuiz entities is missing.

I really hope Quark gets better in the future! Because I don't like Radiant that much either :P

Heh, imo Hammer is better, but it's still pretty poor. UnrealEd for the win!
