  • A friend of mine is used to Half-Life's Hammer Editor and would like to build Nexuiz maps. He says the only thing, that's missing is some kind of definition file, which weapons, warp zones etc are being used.

    Questions:

    1. Is it actually possible to build Nexuiz compatible maps with Hammer?
    (HL = modified Quake1 engine, Nexuiz = modified Quake1 engine ... ???)
[EDIT: Okay, I searched the forums and opinions seem to differ on this point. But since it's all Quake1, what could be the problem?]

    2. IF it is possible, where to find this definition file?

I'm a noob when it comes to mapping, so please explain everything in detail :P

Yes, darkplaces does support hlbsp, but hlbsp doesn't support deluxemapping, so there won't be any bumpmaps visible without realtime lights.

Probably nowhere, i'm not aware of anyone using hammer for Nexuiz... You would have to write your own if the format differs from gtkradiant's entities.def (included in data*.pk3).

  • The HLBSP format is supported by Nexuiz. So he can design and compile a map as normal. He needs to pack the .bsp and .wad's in a .pk3 file (I am not sure in what folder wad files should be though :/). And he can't use original HL or CS .wad files.
And yes, a definition file (.fgd) for Nexuiz would be very helpful. Maybe someone can make one?

But it isn't absolutely necessary to have a fgd file though. He could just place entities and then turn off "Smart Edit" to modify class and edit keys and values. He needs to be an expert on Nexuiz entities though :P

On an other note. I tried Hammer with Wine some weeks ago and opened aggressor.map:

Aggressor was the only map that would open correctly though (since all maps are in Q3 format).

But I'd recommend learning Radiant for Nexuiz.

  • You can create nexuiz map with hammer.
    1) Download quake.fgd (yes, quake1 entities supports by nexuiz)
    2) Setup your Hammer for this fgd
    3) Compile hlcsg with '-nowadtextures' key (see ZHLT docs)

For better results you can write fgd by yourself. It is very simple, take quake.fgd and half-life.fgd for example and create new one with properties like brush FX settings.

+ you can use advanced texture aligment of map version 220
    - no curves

    P.S.: Sorry for my eng...
