    I agree with the flag being bigger, I just followed the concept to the best extent I could. I'm glad that it isn't wood as it's lots easier and fun to make metal stuff :P

    Oh, and as far as Blenders physics goes I do not know about that, I use Maya.

  • Too ripped of a flag like your concept might be stretching it a little, but a ripped flag would definitely do, a totally clean flag would look too weird. But also, if say for instance we take your ripped concept flag, all that would be handled by alpha I suppose, like the picture Fisume posted. So it would all have to be texturing work, as well for dirt and whatnot. Now I'm not the person to create textures (not good enough), perhaps Morphed or someone could assist with that (once a model for the flag has been decided).

  • I like some elemnts of harry's sketch. I still think it could be more futuristic looking. I like the mechanical looking pole of the flag.

    Could we have an "energy" cloth or something?

    Hmm... I'll do some google searching for ideas.

    I like the cables. Crylink uses cables too. Maybe a little more of those. And the "detail gaps" are not visible good enough (yeah, texture and stuff, still...) Would you mind making them a little "deeper"? This would also lead to your desired "s"-curves.
    Can't figure out what the "foot" is supposed to be. :D
    Are you going to make a "base" for this one? Maybe there you could implement some stuff from that bike. Like these exhaust openings...

  • This may sound stupid, but why not a floating (glowing) ball, that is connected to the carrier with a beam of light.
    When you stand still it floats just abouve the players head, but the faster you go the higher it rises, so the more obvious it is where the carrier is, while its still posible to sneak around if you prefer that. :wink:

    I think it's a step in the right direction but it feels too organic. It think it needs sharper edges to feel more futuristic / techy.

    btw, you dont need to count every poly with flag, at max player can see 2 flags, so it wont hit fps much even if flag will be 3000polys

  • Morphed, that is amazing. Any chance you can make the shaft (lol Dokujisan) more like [GF]HarryButt's? I like the idea of glow lights and techie looking stuff... sorta like the nex gun or rocket launcher shapes.

    The 'orb' on the top is sexy as hell.

  • Hmm, I like the concept, but it makes it difficult to refer to it as 'capture the flag' unless it has some resemblance to a flag, as opposed to just a sign.

    Then again, what exactly is a flag? It's a type of sign, but I think it's intended to be loose and flutter in the wind to draw more attention.

    But I like the idea of a holographic or "energy" based flag.

    EDIT: You could still use Morphed's flag to protect yourself. That glowing end with the spinning cog-wheels could be some kind of energy/electro stuff. So from 1st person it would look like you're using a magician's wand.
    This would require a hit effect, like a (team) colored flash or something. (Would be cool to beat somebody up in melee combat with your own team color. Kinda patriotic, isn't it?)
    Maybe it could even have a small recoil, so that the carrier could use this thing as a (weakened) laser to jump around.
    And this again could lead to a Mutator called "Flag Arena" :D Like that Laser Only gametype being in discussion.

    I have no idea what you're on about.
    Anyway, there's still something missing, Morpheds flag does look good, however it reminds too much of Unreal's flag. Just that makes it boring. The cog wheel on top is good, but everything else resembles Unreal (and it uses that Japanese war flag Doku showed us). More tech-stuff and another design would be better IMO.

    Okay, you can use that flag as a melee weapon and a weakened laser replacement (since you can't use any weapon while carrying the flag you still might want to get up to higher places).
    The push effect should be weaker than the one of the original laser to avoid laser-whoring. It might also have a certain amount of reload time.
    The less laserjumping for the carrier, the more it's the team's task to protect him all the way back to base.

    And my idea of a "Flag Arena" was like, everybody is carrying a flag in his own color and there's only trickjumping and melee combat.

  • [GF]HarryButt that concept art is amazing.

    I'm a little iffy on the idea of not allow the flag carrier to use weapons but instead the flag. I think it could be a turn for the better.

    However, I require the ability to 'assasinate' another player. i.e. a melee from behind is an instant death... or 180 damage.
