  • No need to update 500 maps, but parse currently placed entities or new ammo box differently.

    If really in need, then yes. Will need the script if somebody has written it already. Could do it in 2 days probably if in hurry.

  • Does the script automatically calculate the balance of the maps when determining what to replace the rockets with? Sure the ammo next to the weapon is pretty obvious but what about the ammo that's not accompanied by a weapon?

    My point is, you're oversimplifying the change.

  • I also agree that 4 weapons shouldn't use the same ammo. If you use one weapon you won't be able to use any other the others if you waste it's ammo. This is especially important for Nex, it has to have it's own ammo type. However, different ammo types won't be done anytime soon I believe.

    And to esteel: Well they just have to design new a weapon that doesn't use rockets -_^

  • Ok, this is possibly the finished version unless morfar or anyone else has any objections or last suggestions to add. I changed the shape of the box a little, rotated and moved the pieces around to give it more an arbitrary and more 'volumetric' feel, scaled the whole thing up and re-did the texture just a tad, added a Nexuiz logo as well.

  • Nice.. however i kinda dislike to have this 'seperate' grenade. Not sure from the screenshot if it could be mistake for a 'fired' grenade.. Maybe you could put it ontop of the grate and also lean the TAG rocket against the box?

  • Ok, this is the final model (this far :P), with glows and normal maps. I put the mortar on top of the crate at suggested (there was also a problem where the mortar would stick through inside walls and such, so yet another reason why I changed the position).
    Special thanks also goes to Torus which suggested I should bake AO into the model and also thanks for telling me how. :wink:

    While I was at it I also found a bug on the Silvercity map, down at the lowest level (last screenshot).

  • I've started with new stuff now. This time I will be handling the DOM points and Runes. Now I haven't done any concepts for the runes yet, I will do that after I'm finished with the DOM points. So, these are the concepts I have so far and number 4 is the one that I and morfar likes the best. I just want to hear anyone else's opinion, comments or suggestions.
    If not much feedback will be given I will go with concept nr 4.
    In concept 4, those rings will be transparent and will hover up and down rather slowly, so keep that in mind when looking at the image.

    And how, to the update. Here's the different team logos (you've already seen blue):

    However, I would like to exchange pink for green :P Green is more common IMO :)

    If you remove the pink team, where would xsax play? come on, don't be such a meany!

    I like the models, but i think the "icon" part could be higher up so you can easy see the point and who owns it form a bit of distance and odd angles.

  • These models are actually a little bigger than the originals, but also, those rings will be transparent and animated to go up and down so you should be able to see the icons from somewhat a distance. But to mix things up, I could animate those logos to also hover up and down a bit while rotating as well.
    I was thinking that these logos will have fullbright on them so they will be easily visible even from far away. Just that the platform won't have fullbright.

  • I like the latest shots of DOM points, and the idea to have this untouched coin being transformed in something else after being touched.

    I assume correctly that large parts of the model will additionaly be colored in the color of the team that captured it?

    Apart from that, make sure that the proportions of the overall width and height still fit - i.e. don't make the overall model too wide (and thus too short considering the height). Players want to be able to convert a DOM point also when hopping over it ;)

  • Good work as usual, ai. I like especially blue's and red's icon, not so sure about pink and yellow - but that relates only to the general icon concept. I guess those icon's concepts (i.e. the bomb and the crosshair) are predefined or already assigned to these team colors in standard Nexuiz? (I don't play much with four teams...)

    Yeah, these models are just a tad bigger, I might even be able to squeeze it down in size so that they'll fit. However, if 'hitbox' isn't a box I recommend switching to a box as this is also wider than those 'flat' preview designs. And yup, at least the rings and the logo will be the team color. The base I think could be a neutral color, but of course, this would come down to testing later on when the textures and all is done.

    Yup you are correct, all these logos are already pre-defined in Nexuiz. But I also dislike the bomb and the crosshair a bit, even think the red could use some work. But I didn't really wanna change them before asking people their opinions and if they'd be ok to change those.
    I'm in a time constrain here, trying to get these done (along with the runes) before the 2.5 release so designing new logos would take more time. However, if new concepts were to be made and a consensus reached I think I could get that done.

    So, if people have other concepts for the pink and yellow team shoot em up :)

  • I like the cross, what's so bad about the cross? Reminds some people too much of religion? (which they absolutly hate because they are "progressive" and hate the old social mores of said religion... which was in their favor anyway.. but they hate it none the less)?

  • Ok, here comes an update. I've added blood on the platform, animated the logo to spin and also hover a bit up and down. The rings are also hovering up and down. Now I've removed the default fullbright as I don't want the platform to have it, I'll be adding it to the rings and the logo only in a shader instead.
    No normal maps or glows are applied yet, these images are just WIPs, nothing finished yet. Just to keep you updated on the progress.

  • Somehow the DOM points look weird on these screenshots, as if they wouldn't fit in ... they somehow look as if they were photoshopped into the screenshot. Also, the tines coming out of the base of the DOM point make this impression even stronger.

  • imo, I think they actually look more natural than the regular dom points in those shots. It seems less like they're just dropped in the map as an afterthought than the current ones do.
