  • Is that... a minimap? Can you create a thread on how to add minimap data to a new map?

    (on topic)

This seems really fun :D. Hopefully some servers will host it.

  • The feature is not finalized yet. But they are currently generated by "sv_cmd roughmap" on a svn server, then opening the resulting .xpm file in a image editor, and applying the convolution matrix

    -1 -1 -1
    -1 9 -1
    -1 -1 -1

    (a strong sharpener).
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • That probably wouldn't work on the map I'm creating, considering it's made of quite complex static models. Would it be possible to make my own image, convert it to .xpm, and include it in my map?

  • Actually, you save as tga. And no, you can't make it COMPLETELY on your own, as the mapping (size) must be exact. Best way is to first generate the autogenerated image (the xpm), then move/resize your own picture so it matches the .xpm, and save the result as tga.

  • Sounds good :D. How do you recommend I represent areas of overlapping geometry (when seen in plan view)? For example, two areas with the same x-z coords, but on two different locations in the y. For the sake of consistency, I think there should probably be a standard...

    Sorry to derail your topic...

  • No idea. There is no standard for that yet. I'd use different levels of brightness for that, but do what you prefer.

  • Great. Does the map show friendly units, enemies, or neither?

  • Idea: How about for old maps, or ones that haven't had a minimap generated for them, that we use a default "radar" image? It would look much better than the current checkered gray square.

  • If there is any way to detect that from CSQC code, yes. Or just no background (just black picture with player arrows).

  • Please not a black picture. That would look horrable. How about no picture, just player arrows with old maps w/o minimaps. That would look much better. A black box really would look _terrible_ and unplolished.
