  • So... I've started on the ammo pickup models, beginning with the plasma cells. Blender's been crashing, so I probably won't have the actual model for a bit, but here's some concept art I did for it: it's supposed to resemble the containment for a fusion reactor (which hasn't worked so far to my knowledge) but used on a very small scale to contain the plasma. The tubes are for transporting it into the gun, though of course none of that would actually happen as the player just walks over the ammo and it disappears. I think it has kind of a cool organic look to it.

    Look good or no?

  • Seems like a start! Anything with a torus is going to make me happy, of course :P. I just warn you that a toroidal shape is pretty difficult to make with few polygons, considering the curves involved. You might want to re-think them as more mechanical objects, like fuel cells or batteries. The tentacles are kind of strange and cool, but I feel like we don't have a gun to suit such a thing. The round shape is very interesting though.

    ... Time to model a bio-rifle :D

  • Nuclear fusion cannot scale to such size of an energy cell due to the minimum mass required for the criticality of the nuclear fission reaction to initiated nuclear fusion.

The energy cells in Nexuiz are antimatter containment units.

I like the concept, but it doesn't quite fit the style of the weapons that use energy cells (Nex and Electro do look much more hi-tech then organic).
But with some good texture-work i'd prefer your cells over the current. And as i miss the old organic look from the original Nex-model, your cells could give back some of this.
The only thing to point out,as torus mentioned, is the polycount. If you use your concept then at max 2 of these cells should be in the model imo.
Maybe you also have some concept for the Electro ? I'd like to see it.

The purpose of the toroidal shape is to evoke associations with futuristic technology, even if aforementioned endeavor is technically not feasible. I can be pedantic too.

Anyway... I think I'll remove the cables and maybe make them more squarish. And hopefully do some electro concept art. Thanks for the advice/encouragement.

I'm just giving it a try.

I would prefer that organic nex model would be used for smth other than minstanex. That minstanex seems for me as out of place for being a super weapon. No new shooting mode except stronger beam and that 2nd fire laser shot seems illogical. How the hell it can get out of there? Sorry.
Personally, I would like to see minstanex as some sort of shock rifle.
Super weapon should be some sort of exceptional thing which would define nexuiz (as BFG, Redeemer for particular games). Super camping weapon seems not so very attractive. But I have no idea, how the super weapon should look like or what should it do.

  • The organic shape is very interesting. It reminds me a little of the booster in Tremulous.

Something with a stack of toroids (or discs/washers to keep polycount down?) might be neat.
