  • I Can Apply as a Concept Artist, I can come up with "New Weapons" you guys just have to tell me what Kind your looking for, or at least "The Weapon That This Game Has" (example: Crysis, HalfLife2, Quake 4, etc.) And send me Pictures of that Weapon from the Game, that you want "Similar". I can come up with some "Freaked out Stuff", I just need input.

I've Worked on many HalfLife 2 "Mods", all never completed.

I have a few Concepts Already:

  • Just some Feedback

@Nightrage: very nice work - I could imagine the middle row, far left, bottom weapon as concept art for a new crylink model, only the front would have to be a bit ... I dunno, more spray-like ;o)

@lovelybr: you've really got some talent there - impressive work!

Oh, and welcome to the forum! ;o)

    Edit: VERY impressive work, lovelybr.

  • @NightRage:
You have some really nice skills there. I somehow missed the new posts in this thread.
If you wanna help out there are two weapons which could use some new concepts. Firstly it's the Crylink which all agree on should be re-designed. There's also the Nex, however, there's been no input from people wanting to change it. I really want to see another design as I don't really think the current design fits the style. I don't know what other people think, but if a new better design where to be created I think people wouldn't mind changing it.
If you do think about creating a design for the Nex keep that in mind.

Recently, many weapons has gone through face lifts and some has been totally re-designed (by Morhped). The only ones IMO that could use better models is Crylink, Nex and even T.A.G. (though that image looks nothing like the T.A.G. :p I don't even know what it's supposed to be). I also think people would agree that the T.A.G. could use a new design.

PS. I am going to model out a jetpack (which will only be on the ground, not on the player models), however, I do not have a ready concept yet. I was planning on coming up with something, but if you feel you're up to it then perhaps you wanna do it? You are way better concept artist than me.

    @lovelybr:
Hey there. Firstly, what do you like creating? Is it environments, characters or something else? I really like the 'Cloaked' image, conveys really good feel and atmosphere. When looking at your images I get the feel you're more of a generalist that does many things. Usually, people here do what they like and are interested in, so you can pick yourself what you like to do. Did you have something in mind?

So to sum it up what we need in terms of concepts:
    Weapons:
    Crylink
T.A.G. Seeker (optional; if good concept is made it might change the current)
Nex (optional; if good concept is made it might change the current)

    Misc:
Jetpack (a model on the ground, not on actual player models)
Runes (for the game mode Rune. I believe 5 different concepts for the various effects, I lost the file where I had this written up so I don't know which effects are needed)

PS. The Runes is also something I'm working on, but I haven't made concepts for that yet.

  • So am I in? And actually, I like to do anything, But like drawing characters and landscapes... will this game have a story line? Or is it just multi-player? anyway, I could draw you up a jet pack and maybe a gun.. cause I have a really good one in mind!
anyway... I would like to more about the game itself if that isn't too much to ask, like where it's placed, (environments) what time(weapons and looks) and stuff like that... thanks :D

  • Well, there doesn't really exist a story. Most people here on the forums seem however to agree on that it's way into the future. Where you can travel between different planets and solar systems etc.
Best way of trying to figure out where and how this is played out is to look at current player models and maps. It's ones own choice to imagine what backstory there is if one so want.

Sure, if you have concepts for weapons and jetpack fire it up. Post it up on the forums (separate thread) for critique and input. How it's been up to know has been very loose. People grab projects up for themselves but if someone else better comes along then there's more to choose from.
Keep in mind that the style has to fit Nexuiz. Play some Nexuiz to get a feel for the design, style and overall atmosphere.

  • I took up the time to put together a character, which I think is very original, any feedback would be appreciated. I played the game and I have the main gist of what is going on! http://lovelybr.deviantart.com will be the place where I post my work, if that is okay. I have thrown together a landscape/map, on paper, just need to put it on the computer... I t will be C.T.F. map, I would suspect, very intense atmosphere. xD Hope you like my character concept. Also, I made a concept for an alien gun, but I am not sure if you guys would like it.. it's in my scraps on deviant art. Alien gun it's called.. I figured what it would do, and charge time animations but I'm not sure if it's.. too much. Feedback is nice as well xD

  • Hey, that's a very nice character concept, looking really good! And you nailed the style and feel for Nexuiz in my opinion as well. That's really good if you've just only played it a bit, good perception!

You have an interesting view on the alien gun concept. Now, I don't know how well a 'Blind' weapon would fit in in Nexuiz. If many people used it in FFA there would be chaos :P But I could see other uses for such a unique weapon like (sticky)mines or something.

I suggest for you to create a thread for yourself, maybe something like I have done (The ai Frontier), where I post all my work which people can comment, critique and give suggestions for. That way it's easy to see if new stuff been posted and doesn't create all those separate threads which you would have to look up and search for. :)
I can really see a future for such a character you created. I hope people will give their feedback on what they think.

    Good luck ^_^

  • Well the character certainly fits the style of Nexuiz. I am impressed how fast you are and how well you adopt to the style of this game.

As for the alien gun, somehow the aliens in Nexuiz are rather technique-oriented than bio-mass-like. But the idea of a blinding weapon sounds interesting to me, reminds me of flash missiles in a game called Descent 2 which I quite liked

Anyhow, I really like your work.

  • I am a student, learning 3D modeling and game design in my free time. I have been using blender for well over 5 years, and consider myself a pretty advanced user, (although I always have room to improve :))

anyway, as previously stated, I use blender, plus photoshop terragen 1 and 2, and garage band. I can't get netRadiant to run on my computer, though. so I don't know how much help I can be beyond making stuff and sending it to people.

I have worked a lot with blender's built in game engine, and I know a lot about how games work, and also am very good at figuring out new ways to accomplish things in sneaky ways. ;)

I also have a limited knowledge of programing in the form of java and python.

here are some examples of my work: photobucket

I would love to be a part of this. and look foreward to working with you in any way i can.

    -yoda

PS- I didn't make everything in my photobucket account. just to let ya know ;)

  • yeah, I plan on it. although vega trek seems to be in a bit of a slow spot at the moment. lack of support, it seems.

anyway, I would like to help with the story line. I am very excited to see it come to fruition. i can make levels, weapons, vehicles, whatever you need. and also work on story conceptualizing and editing.

  • All you really need to know is that I will create any 2d image you want as long as it isn't rate "xxx" or "adult". I'm mormon.

ALL BELOW THIS IS POINTLESS INFO SET ASIDE FOR THOSE WITH FREE TIME:

I am not good with 3D yet, but I intend to become better at it, starting with Blender.
But I have a mastery of The Gimp 2.6.7 (can't wait for the hopefully soon to come 2.8 ^ _ ^)
and can create almost anything I am in the mood to make. I can often recreate any tutorial made for Photoshop and then create my own special Gimp way of doing it. I am currently (when homework is all done) planning on making a vid for rendering realistic water, which is harder then it sounds. And even when I do figure it out (which I almost have), I have to wait for a mike so I can narrate the video.

one propably huge task is to remake most of the current textures because the are low res and are blurred depending on your settings.

So feel free to start with that, because thats whats hardly needed.

Hey there! That's nice to hear that you are working on ye skills! (More than what I can say about myself1 :))) I'm learning Blender through, hope you have seen these tutorial videos, otherwise you are in for a treat, they are great!

As cortez says, really nice highres textures are needed! :D
There is also an initiative to revamp maps. Remember, any highres textures are appreciated, so just stroll around in game and see if there is any wall or whatever that speaks to you: "Oi mate, can ye spare an old wall some new clothes ?"
Also doing concept art would be really appreciated since there are people who can 3d model! This can serve as nice inspiration for others! It's a opensource game, we all do a tiny bit here and there, help each other out to the best of our ability.

So just look around, see if you feel any inspiration and see what you want to channel it into, since as Nietzsche put it: "..a thought comes when it wills." and don't be afraid to ask questions!
But most of all have a good time! :D

  • Indeed, I started the series of contests in order to get people to actually start working... As, even though people have talked about fixing/retexturing maps, not many have actually stepped up to the plate. One of the main things we need are high quality textures, which are GPL and fairly unique/original from the other textures currently in Nexuiz. So I suppose i'll make my appeal... All visual artists, please work on a high resolution and high quality texture set (512x512 aptly)! Well, you don't HAVE to, but it would perhaps be the most helpful thing an artist could do for us right now. If you're going to start on one, please post here and let us know.... Or perhaps on Screenshots/videos of what you're doing, etc. :D
Do it yourself, or stop complaining.

  • I posted in the 'need developers' sticky as well, but again, I have extensive box modeling, rigging, animating, and particle skills in 3DS Max. I use FumeFX for fire and clouds though. I haven't even looked at this game yet but I'm assuming it uses the quake engine? I have gtk radiant as well so I can probably construct maps with practice.

I also have photoshop skills. I can do pretty much anything you want me to here. Seamless textures, bump maps, etc. The only thing I haven't learned yet is how to do organic uvw (like making a wrap for a face). Any video tutorials on that would be welcome :\
