  • wouldn't it be great if the campingrifle (the new model) have a real scope?

it would look like this (by zooming in)

  • It would be great, in my opinion.

As I understand it though, it wouldn't work- since the scope would block out people's vision, Nexuiz players would just turn it off, as they do with any aspect of the game that isn't absolutely vital for playing it. And I don't think there is any way to prevent them from doing that. :\

  • Whatever, if they turn it off, they turn it off.

People that have to "cheat" to do better don't get the full experience.

i worked on that, i made the black a bit transparent so you can see whats going on
    outside the scope.

  • Could you make a scope as a crosshair and then as part of the +zoom_in and +zoom_out you load that crosshair and then the original one back? It's a hack and would only be set up for a single crosshair but if someone really wants to see a sniper scope, this would do it.

  • Firstly the zoom for the camper rifle is the middle mouse button where as for the nex its the secondary. So if you have a scope for the camper rifle you will probably have it for all the weapons you zoom in with using the middle mouse button.

Secondly people would just use fov zoom scripts to get past this.

    Btw, really nice scope.

  • You can use the middle mouse button on ALL guns, including the nexgun. Its just that noone had a better idea for the secondary button on the nex :P

But i for one would not like such a scope effect. Nexuiz is about fast gameplay and a scope would slow it down and also change weapon balance. Besides people hardly use zoom unless its really huge maps..

Can't do it myself right now due to the unreal life I lead. Plus from what [-z-] says there could be some better way available.

And camping rifle is meant for camping so scope would add greater effect. I wonder what's the possibility of making scope default for camping rifle.

  • Well then perhaps you need to find someone to code in 2 states per weapon. zoomed in and not.

  • It would be good if the very middle were transparent rather than a black dot: this _will_ improve your aim. I've used both types of crosshairs (ones I made) and the vacated middle was the best for picking out a target and hitting it.

  • I wouldn't say it will improve your aim. It depends on the individual. I for instance have to have a dot (I'm actually playing with the dot ingame) in order to tell my brain that I can hit something. If it is empty in the middle it feels like I am missing the players.
So, transparent in the middle or not is an individual basis nothing one can say that one is better than the other.

  • Yea but really... It's still better (the dot doesn't obscure the player, allows you to reach beyond your zoom spec). The plink sound tells you if you hit it or not. Try that out for awhile.

  • I know the hit sound plays when you hit something. But for me for instance, if I have a circle without anything in the middle it distracts me as I don't know when the player is in the middle. Even if the circle is small, it just doesn't coop with my brain having no point that tells what exactly I'm aiming at.

  • Here's as basic as you can get but there are some downfalls to this method, the crosshair is only different when you zoom in and it canvases all weapons based on their crosshair_* definitions

    Code: Select all
    bind mouse3 +zoom_with_crosshair

    alias +zoom_with_crosshair "+zoom; crosshair_per_weapon 1"

    alias -zoom_with_crosshair "-zoom; crosshair_per_weapon 0"

Annd the more complicated... smarter way on a PER WEAPON basis...

    Code: Select all
    crosshair_per_weapon 1

    bind mouse3 +zoom_with_crosshair

    set crosshair_campingrifle_in "12"
    set crosshair_campingrifle_out "14"

    crosshair_campingrifle $crosshair_campingrifle_out

    alias +zoom_with_crosshair "+zoom ; crosshair_campingrifle $crosshair_campingrifle_in"

    alias -zoom_with_crosshair "-zoom ; crosshair_campingrifle $crosshair_campingrifle_out"

the numbers correspond to your crosshair*.tga files in your gfx directory.
