  • Hi guys, I've searched for about two days on the site for informations about the creation of (static)models inside the game but I couldn't find what I want.
I tried (on blender 2.48a)to create a model, triangolize it, export it with the md3 or ase exporter but:
When I fire up NetRadiant (under ubuntu) the model is perfect, with texture and seems to be ok, but when I build the map I ran into this message:
    Code: Select all
ERROR: PicoLoadModel: Failed loading model models/mapobjects/terrain/terrain.md3
    And, infact

Infact, when I launch Nexuiz there's no model!

So my question is : can I use blender to create static map models?

    Thanks in advance!!

  • Since you are using NetRadiant, it would be easier to export the models as wavefront (.obj) files.
I didn't have any problems with them. (Their textures are not displayed in NetRadiant, but work ingame)

picomodel: support .obj format as exported by Blender, with a .mtl file defining the shader names for each material; to export using Blender, enable "Materials" and "Material Groups" in the .obj export dialog

  • It MIGHT be a problem regarding file paths. Can you zip up the whole directory with your map and the md3 file (the whole directory structure, that is), and I'll try to find out why it fails and perhaps fix it?
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • No guys, also with .obj file it returns me the same error:
    Code: Select all
ERROR: PicoLoadModel: Failed loading model models/mapobjects/wc/wc.obj

Moreover, for .obj file, I changed in Blender material's file structure: for md3 I create an object, and in materials tab I changed materials name with texture name( I saw in Vixen player model file).Instead, in .obj file I first used this approach and failed, then I create a material and I linked the texture and failed again!

this is the link of the zip, http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=4c71f8fdad5aeb64af924764f9977b1de04e75f6e8ebb871
I don't think it's a path error because I can see the textures and the geometry in Radiant!

Another thing:I tested also on GTK radiant and the map crashes when loaded.

    Thanks again for your help!

  • It's a build menu bug. Will be fixed in the next NetRadiant build (just svn update). It specifies -game quake3 to q3map2, and should be using -game nexuiz.

As a workaround, do this on Linux:

    mkdir -p ~/.q3a
    ln -snf ~/.nexuiz/data ~/.q3a/data

Or, append the option -game nexuiz to the build menu entries manually.
    1. Open Notepad
    2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
    3. Save
    4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

  • Thanks a lot divVerent!! I only added -game nexuiz to the build menus and now works perfectly! I didnt'use the ln and mkdir command because I've already a .q3a folder and I didn't want to make a mess!

    Wow, now I can make a map!Thanks!! :D

P.S:Can i put [SOLVED] on the tread now?
