Of course, better than current, but I don't know how this iphone'ish look goes with gibs and blood splashing around.

Looks good to me. I wonder if it would be possible to set the "ring" around the outside to your teamcolor/shirtcolor, could one make a clock_shirt.tga for instance and have that overlay the color thusly?

As it is done in code now, I doubt that's possible. It however would be a simple thing to add, just need to make the ring separate from the background tga and color that according to GetTeamRGB(GetPlayerColor(desiredPlayerId))

If someone makes the tga files, I could try giving the coding part a shot...

Another thing, could you try to make it match the theme of the new HUD?

Just make the image black and white like this, and we can color it the same as the hud:
