  • The Lag-clock on nexuiz is quite annoying, right? I think so. For all the people who are to lazy to make a new one... here. I made a new Lag item. I don't want to be pushy but could this be included in the next update?

I guess it could work though it meaning: "connecting"
The clock just doesn't fit into the environment. I've talked to several people on the game about it.

I agree. i thought it looked better when i saved it. I'll try to make it look like its on the actual top, and side, (a on the box 3d) type thing. Sound good?

  • Hi, I'm thinking about a Kanji named "DOKI", a Japanese ideogram meaning "time". So I did a png with a white shadow:

    Image

    I'm on the right way?

PS:  Where I've to put the image to replace the boring clock on my client?

The word 'doki' isn't use that much an in fact might be weird even for Japanese people. However, that same character is also called 'ji' which is associated with time in the sense of 1'oclock, 2'oclock, this would be 1-ji (ichi-ji), 2-ji (ni-ji). But that 'ji' is used mostly as 'oclock'.
A more appropriate word would be 'jikan' which includes the same character but also adds another one: 時間
This would be ji (時) kan (間) which means hours and time in general.

  • I think isn't a good idea to use only a japanese symbol...

Maybe integrating it in some kind of graphical clock, even stylized, with gray/dark colors, like nexuiz logo style.

  • There is turtle, isn't it?

Ok, both are childish, but clock and turtle make sense. Maybe better versions of these.

  • Haha. No, there's a turtle realy, but it's not used in code (I haven't seen it yet, tho I've had the infamous spf sometimes).

Btw. I agree that the clock is ugly.

  • I hardly ever see the clock.
But the clock is not beautiful. But as some say: the clock don't always come up when there is lag. So an Ethernet cable can be out of place sometimes.
MAybe the engine can be changed to show different icons. This may be considered a bug...

But thanks for the contribution. This is how Nexuiz development works :P You contribute, and community judge if it's good to have as default.

WHen is the turtle supposed to be shown? When you have spf? Then we need a turtle icon :P

  • Very strange... the turtle icon isn't present anymore, but there is the code to load it (that fails indeed). The command to show it is showturtle 1 and should show the turtle when the framerate is too slow. Strange.

Better but you went a little heavy on the outer glow of the '力'. I suggest you add a 2px dark gray stroke around the outside and increase the density of the glow while lightening the opacity.

 Win Vista clock... But this is a quick beta try version!
I liked to remove the pointers and replace them with "strenght"... philosophically.
But you remind me a right thing. I need another clock.

  • still going to heavy on the glows, make it's look amature. The lighting on the edges needs work too, it's pixelated.... as is the 力

  • @ alpha: I know, but the meaning is "your time is engaged by Nexuiz at the moment..."

@ President: thanks, but those ideograms are too messy, the clock appears for a little while on the screen. IMHO is much better to use the recognizable "strenght" symbol... and, it better replaces the hands.

    Image

Now, this is less pixelated (I used SVG, thanks [-z-]). I add some gray at the quadrant and I played a bit with the edges of the 力.

  • Keep the red color around the clock, it looks better. Like in this version:
    Image
BTW, red seems to fit better. According to Wu Xing, red (fire), represents hot climate. If you suddenly disconnect and you were having an intensive game, you feel hot (at least I do when I've had an intensive game).
Also, according to Xingyiquan. Fire represents this combat stance: "Exploding outward like a cannon while blocking." Which, seems to fit a bit in Nexuiz.
Earth represents in Xingyiquan: "Crossing across the line of attack while turning over." which seems to fit more in Nexuiz gameplay. But, green doesn't fit with the other colors in the clock.

Hmm, took me 15 mins. to look all the stuff, whatever.
