I did this today at my Hangout (StarBucks).

  • Awesome work! The stand looks really bad ass and I can tell you put a lot of thought into how this will be used in game.

  • Really great concept, I love yours, they are so clean and nice to look at.
I agree about the legs that they need a bit more work, but only on the bottom part, they need some kind of platform and not being pointy like that as it looks like it would burrow the tips of the legs into any soft ground.

But other than that it's a really good one.

  • Looks great, and would work nicely with my classbased mod

If only I had the time to work on that thing, I've been swamped with IB exams and homework for the past few months, sorry guys :(

  • Thanx everyone, I know it has alot of problem Areas, as all concepts of mine do.

But lets form a Team for this "Mod".

I've played Orange Box TF2 as well as "Team Fortress Classic" and HalfLife Team Fortress and love to Play All.

But I think the "Nexuiz" Version Should be a little different where we have to have a "Balanced Team" to have any success. I'm not saying "Orange or HalfLife" doesnt, but lets say its 4 against 3 in a game, and one Team picks all Soldier Class and kills all the other team at will, if theres a "Uneven-Team" the Class system should make it unable to choose too much power or pick them automatically for you if theres only a few players in a server.

Or give the weak team an advantage of some sort, like the turrets will have better armor or kill the Advantaged team quicker until more players join to make the classes more even.

Some player classes should have a concussive grenade and cause weapons to stop working when effected by the blast perimiter.

I have alot of ideas to make this Unique in every way.

Like only the Runner or Scout Class will have the "Ability to use the Teleports" for a fast getaway.

The Heavy Gunners will be Slow but will kill more if in their path.

The Sniper Class will be limited and have to earned in every match. lets say you "Stunk" at Sniper in the earlier match of a game on the same "Server", the server will stop you from choosing Sniper in the Next Game. you will have to Choose a Different Class.

You will need a demolitionist in Matches with Bridges or Wall breaking maps.

    stuff like that......

  • If you want to make a TF mod seek out Clueless Newbie as he had a similar motivation to do such a mod.

    Make it work!
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

  • Actually "Clueless Newbie" was the one who had the whole Idea. He's no noob, thats just his screen name.

    We should make this happen.

Lets Say a Sign up Sheet on a new "Post".

Lets say a team of 12, or so:

    3 Concept Artist/2D Artist
    2 3D Artist
    2 Sound Folley
    3 Coders
    2 Animators

But Some of the "Capture The Flag Maps" allready on Nexuiz should work fine for this "MOD" so we might not need mappers.

  • Lets Make it happen,

@Clueless Newbie, this is your Idea, do You want to Set this up.
I know many will want to "Mod" Nexuiz.
I have fun Playing on (Nexican Server) all the time.

All we need is a Small team then we can Go to "Moddata Base" and Ask for Help or other Game Sites if need be, but Nexuiz Forums First.

@CrazyClone, good, then I guess we'll leave the icons for you. We might need the Red and Blue capture the Flag, and Capture base Icons. :)

Thanks! I didn't think it looked that good. But yes, I think this project can happen.

I think we should move this to a new forum made for this once we got our people. should I begin on the site?

EDIT: Who is Administrating the Source Forge entry for this? Also, I will try to come up with a name for this because we don't want to get in to legal issues. Maybe "Team Nexuiz"? I mean, that one isn't great, but it's an example of how we could combine both names.

EDIT2: I got a name, and am working on the forum right now. The name is Fortress: Nexuiz. Sound good?

  • If we want this thing to start off right, we're gonna need a few good men.

We Need a Leader, Co-Leader (I can Co-Lead), a PR or someone letting people know of progress and possible interview with team for websites and other Open Source Gaming sites.

Also Someone making the "Game Design Document"
Its gonna have the Powers and weakness of the game, number of maps number of characters, the weapons, how each weapon affects the player, how each health, ammo, power up, affects the player, easy ways to advance in each map, combination of player classes it takes to have success, more much more.

Art People, many (I'll Be one)

Mappers = mappers that know mapping for "Team Fortress" where to place items and make each map a challenge.

    Programmers

3D People = making the props and Characters

We all need to be on the same page, and work together and balance the Workload. So that we dont start blaming people for the lack of progress. And we need to HAVE FUN DOING IT!

  • I said what i was gonna be on the other topic and the other forum. I suggest we post any progress and sign up on there so its easy to be part of. I'd be glad to lead and BE an "ART PERSON" for changing sketches into computer aided sketches.

Thanks, sign up on the forum

  • I suggest make a "New" post in this Forum and Let them Know of the Whole Idea.

You can say... "Nexuiz Team Fortress" Mod in Need of Developers

Put your forum Site there and make sure you let them Know it was an inspiration by "Clueless Newbie" to Create History, Nexuiz Team Fortess.

I can post in ModData Base and post some Sketches for help.

I got your PM. Yes, I really want this to happen. I'd like to call it "Nexuiz Team Fortress (NTF)," btw.

I can do maps, concept art (I think), textures, scenery models, and bitch about what I like and do not like. I can not do any coding or player models, and that is where the real work lies, I think. Until we find people who can do that, NTF won't go anywhere.

I might be willing to lead this project. i was one of the main contributors / leaders of Marathon: Rubicon. You can find a trailer for it here (youtube). However, there is another project (not game-related) I'm also working on...

    Me too, I guess.. ;)

Mappers = mappers that know mapping for "Team Fortress" where to place items and make each map a challenge.

We don't need many maps for this. Just one or two unique maps to show off the mod. It's important (to me, anyway) that NTF can be played with all the standard CTF and Ons maps that are already out there.

    Programmers
3D People = making the props and Characters

These are vital. No programmers and character modelers, no NTF. I can make scenery props with Radiant, but I doubt I can make a character model. As for the weapons, I suggest we stick to the models already present in Nexuiz when possible.

We all need to be on the same page, and work together and balance the Workload. So that we dont start blaming people for the lack of progress. And we need to HAVE FUN DOING IT!

    Absolutely.

  • I like the concept. The only thing I can spot on their is that the legs seem much bigger than the rest of the unit, maybe shrink them down a bit and you got a pretty flawless concept.

Yeah, the legs remind me of the dragoons in Tremulous. How about legs like those of the arachnotrons or spider mastermind in classic DOOM?

If this project gets started (which won't happen until coders and modelers join up), we should decide on what visual style to use, for instance utilitarian army, alien weirdness, sports arena, My Little Pony (as if), or something else — and stick to that style. The problem I have with the current Nex player models is the lack of coherence. Every model looks as if it comes from a different universe.
